I'm not part of the "In crowd" but I like to shoot and love to learn. I hate being wrong and want too learn as much as I can. Today I set out to get my gun's drop data figured out for my up and coming antelope hunt for September 20th. My goal was 600 yards but after today I don't feel I have enough trigger time or understanding the wind adjustment just yet. Also felt like the wind was swirling where I was shooting. So I've limited myself to 450 yards. I first started by checking my 200 yard zero and when the first shot blew the quarter size bull out my buddy and I felt it was good. The way the range was set up made my shots not exactly 300-400-500 more like 340-430-560 yards by the Nikon lazer. I was trying to find the right BC to put into my strelok app so I can plug and dial and shoot. Once I felt I achieved the correct zero I shot one at 340 then one at 430 then back to 340 then back to 430. The bull on the 340 target is 2 7/8" circle I drew. The hash marks are one moa adjustment for each mark. 340 yards 1016 Altitude 77 Temp 1009 Pressure 86% Humidity 327 MH .375 BC 2555 f/s 430 yards Circle is little over 4" Same as above

Like I told you I've got my eye on a bonafide record book goat... probably go 86-88"... Looks like you'll be ready to go by the 20th. Last time I saw him he was around a mile away and still looked big. Zen

Yes R Rat you are part of the in crowd. brothers helping brothers regardless of the gun or the load. that's good shooting and you will get better with more practice.
hope Mr Goat shows himself at a reasonable distance. past 400 or so and its a crap shoot in the field. I wouldn't feel good about stretching farther than that myself but that's just me. too many variables in the real world past 400 and one must have a rock steady rest at that distance... good luck

You've done your homework well in the last months. Well.... there's been a whole summer I've lost I guess.. Time to quit working and shoot! Great stuff thanks for investing your time and resources for us.

R Rat................You are in the right ball park and your 300 yard stuff looks good. But as Hillbill indicated, once you start stretching it out, mother nature can play havoc on your group................which in turn could cause a "wound" or miss. Even with my extremely accurate 6mm BRX 600 yard bench gun, a little wind comes up? ?? Next thing you see your target up on the "Wailing" wall and group moved 5 or 6 inches off the bull or even off the paper...........and that is from a rock solid rest on a concrete bench with a 40X Leupold competition scope and a 17 lb. rifle. Thanks guys for the compliments.
Like Richard said once you stay getting out at farther ranges you have an uncontrollable variable, wind. For this reason I'm going to limit my range to 450 and that's with hardly no wind if that happens.
I've learned allot from allot of members here and hope to continue to learn. I still want to shoot farther but I feel I'm going to actually have to sit down face to face with someone who has and have them show me stuff I need to learn. I really enjoy the challenge of long range and hope to figure it out someday.
Thanks again guys I really appreciate the pat on the back!
As Slufoot says
"Good Shooting"

I don't know what rig you are shooting but you sure are using the right bullet. I doubt you will beat it in the wind and it carries a bunch of energy down range..
