Does anyone have experience with reduced loads with Blackhorn 209 in a .50? Just seeing how light of a load anyone has shot. Please list if charge is by volume or weighed and bullet weight. For my 10 year old daughter, Encore .50. Thanks, Kyle

Exact same load using a TC Impact 50 cal., 60gr BH209 by volume and a Barnes 250gr TMZ (when these are used up, will be a 250gr TEZ with harvester smooth black sabot). I was worried about expansion at the lower velocities but after examining the exit hole, it was obvious that the TMZ did expand, round hole in, jagged hole out. This picture shows the exit hole from a 30yd shot, the doe was quartering too us a little more than I thought when I told my son to shoot but he placed the bullet right behind the shoulder and took out all the vitals with the exit midway back on the doe's body, she only ran maybe 20 yards with an excellent blood trail. I estimated the bullet velocity at approx. 1400fps at the muzzle which should produce enough knock down power out to about 75yds.

Thank You guys for the feedback. That load looks to be the ticket for kids to shoot. Kyle

The 60gr BH209 load has been good for me too. You might also want to look at the Barnes 225gr XPB made for 45LC. Expansion is excellent even at low muzzle velocity.

For my 10 year old daughter, Encore .50. Thanks, Kyle I loaded 75 gns (by volume, pellets) and my son billed a nice buck at 80-85 yds, dropped him within 10 yds. Ofcourse shot placement is key with a bullet or razor.
