I'm building a new RemPac working on the breach plug. My ? Is about honing out the breach plug so the primer goes in deeper for head spacing. What is the best method and tool to do this?

What primer will you be using...? Fed 209a are a little bigger than Winchesters IIRC so snug for one type might be loose on another....The c size drill bit has been mentioned many times but must be used very slowly by hand...Richard mentioned the b size to get close and polish with sand paper wrapped around a bit.....Take it slow and check for fit frequently to get it just right and try a few primers in it to make sure it will work for you....

A Dremel with a q tip in the chuck and polishing compound has always worked for me. Probably a thousand ways to do it.

First plug I used compound on a few Win 209 primers and cycled the bolt numerous times. Switching to a new primer coated with compound every so often. Eventually a Fed 209 would fit in the plug. Just check for fit with the desired primer frequently.
The other plugs I used a C size bit and turned the bit in by hand. The bit is quicker but either worked.

Make sure that the Bolt Nose clears the Breechplug before you start. Did you chamfer it? Are you using a new or used Bolt Retaining Screw? The Bolt Retaining Screw wears a small flat on it which opens up the headspace until it "breaks/wears" itself in after cycling the bolt multiple times with a tight fitting Primer. I use a Cratex Bullet spun down to just fit in the ID to polish it out under 10X magnification. Go slow and reassemble many times to test to not remove too much material.

What is a cratex bullet and how do you spin it down? Q-tip in a Dremel is a good idea. I imagine you pull the cotton off one end. What else do you use that for?

Keep the inside of the breech plug tight enough that you have to "cam" the primer in. If it goes all the way in by hand, its too loose. I just put in a new plug today in a build I'm doing for another member. Win. 209 and it was a perfect fit. No drill and no sand paper. Gun fired and primer came right off the bolt nose with no leakage. Richard
