What caliber? If .45, saboted or sabotless? Some powders that are close to 4198 are; SR 4759, Reloader 7, VV N120, H322, Reloader 10X. Some of these are used as singles and some are used in duplex loads. While being close on the burn rate chart, they are not exact. Use caution and do some research such as on TG's pressure traces in the load section before jumping in and dumping anything down the barrel. Some more description of your gun/bullet and your intent will help the pro's here give you some better advice.

If you are new to SML, I will ASSUME you have a Savage .50? In with case many use Re-7 in place of H or IMR 4198. N-120 is another good one but not found in most shops (at least very often and then very expensive) The others that Ohioguy mentioned can be good when coupled with duplex loads. 42 gr. of 4759 has been an excellent load by itself with a 250 gr. bullet. It could also be used as the starter charge when duplexed with 322? There are lots of combinations. Also N-110 is another good powder by itself or as a starter charge.

Selway armory has H4198 if anyone needs to get some. I just purchased 8# jug, they still had 68- 1# bottles left.

You can find it on-line .. but you have to pay the Hazmat fee to have it shipped which basically doubles the price.. Midway USA has it and some others.. I am new to this too.. I finally found a bottle close enough to me to go pickup.. it was the last one the guy had .. you could also ask some gun shops if they can order it for you and not charge you the hazmat fee..
