Is anyone from Maryland or hunt in Maryland so as to be able to say whether or not SML hunting is compliant with regulations? I tried to access the regulations on their DNR sight but it is not working right now. This site is a synopsis of regulations but says BP or equivalent.

I am interested in this also.My buddy from P.A. hunts Sika Deer in the early Muzzleloader season and asked me to go this year. Those regulations seem very vague as they read: Muzzleloaders used for deer and bear hunting must be at least .40 caliber in size and use not less than 60 grains of black powder (or a black powder equivalent) and propel one all-lead, lead alloy or copper soft-nosed or expanding bullet or ball at a single discharge. Sabot loads are legal. One can interpret this a couple of different ways I think.....

I'm working from home today and bored to tears so I called the Maryland DNR. Using smokeless powder with a muzzle loader IS legal as long as all the other criteria notated is met. caliber... front loading...etc.

Long time MD resident and hunter. Personal friend = DNR warden. As stated above, SML is legal in MD. If you want to find trouble with a DNR rep in MD, then try to "bend a rules" on the waterfowl side of the regulations. Can become very unpleasant very quickly.

I talked to a DNR guy last fall here in the state of MD at a check in site when I was bear hunting , he uses a Savage SML though he had never heard of Dougs Message Board

Thanks, guys. I found the e-regs too as posted in my OP but the link from DNR was not working this morning. I talked to a guy on an NWR and he didn't know the answer to my question since nobody has ever asked. I was hoping I could take an SML up there for deer.
