I'm trying to choose between these: conquest 3-9x40 ~$335, meopro 3-9x42 ~400, Viper HS 4-16x44 LR ~400, Viper 3.5-10x50 ~340, 2.5-10X42 Monarch~300.
I'm liking the power on the hs and Nikon. However,Nikon seems too be king of advertising, the vortex seem to have a cult following, zeiss has die hard fans and the conquest seems to be a lot better than the terra stuff. And then there is the meopro under the radar for excellent value. Has anyone compared in hand the viper hs vs conquest, or conquest vs meopro? I've read the zeiss and meopro maybe identical. I can find Nikon all day long to look at.
I just want want a very nice hunting scope for last light out of a blind. My shots will under 200yds on deere. Maybe the occasional coyote.

I habe pretty much been a diehard Leupold fan for many years until this year when O bought my first Zeiss. They are incredible.

It would be Vortex for me... I am really impressed with their quality and proformance. If you want the most light transmission then do the 50mm objective. If long shots are your priority then do the 16 power..... Any of the scopes you listed are good scopes.. I just like the Vortex and their customer service.. I am a Vortex dealer and I've never sent one back for repair but I talk to the guys their quit often placing orders...

I thought about changing to the Viper hs 4-16 to get more magnification but every time I shoot mine with the conquest 3-9x40 I am still amazed at the clarity. Plus I just love the reticle.

I have had every scope you have listed except the Viper 3.5-10x50.That being said,if you haven't tried a Meopta yet, your really missing out. They are incredibly clear, very easy to get behind and the reticles are top notch that stay BLACK instead of turning the copperish color when the sun hits it just right.Meopta actually built the Conquest scopes for Zeiss also.Meopta has a Meopro 3.5-10x44 that you can pick up at www.cameralandny.com/ right now for $399.95 also!

I have never seen one of the Meopta scopes in person but I would be inclined to agree with Rlp10ml sight unseen. My main spotting scope is a Meopta and it is outstanding clear. I'd like to try a scope but that day may never come, too many scopes already and not many builds left.

I have a 4-16X50 Viper PST and Viper HS LR on two of my MZ's and 3-9X40 Conquests on the other two. The Zeiss' are the clearest scope I have ever looked thru but are limited at only 9X. Not quite enough power for me to shoot out to 500+yds. The PST works great and is awesome for the money. Just depends on how far you want to shoot IMO. If you are only shooting 200yds or less it's a no brainer for me. The Zeiss is the way to go. I have 4 of them. They are all great scopes. Good luck

I have looked at the Vortex line several times and I always have the same issue. I cant see the magnification numbers on the dial without my reading glasses. That will not work for me in the field. I own several Conquest and love them. I have an HD 5 now that my initial impression is very good but have not hunted with it yet.

I've had several Vipers, just too heavy and the ones I had, had short eye relief, they're gone. Had a Weaver and when it didn't track any longer sent it back, later when I got it back the ticket said it was within factory specs. No longer have a Weaver. Can't say anything bad about the Zeiss scopes. As far as I'm concerned though Leupold is the King of scopes, if you want inexpensive light weight the the VX-2 3x9x40 is a really good scope which I have several. Mark 4's are tough and track and I have several but are expensive but if you watch like I did you can get them for $700-800. The VX-111 or 3 are priced in between are are also excellent all with 4" eye relief. Now my last purchased a VX6 2x12x42 is extremely clear. I have a VX-111 4.5x14x50 LR Illuminated on my ML-11 45 caliber rifle. Has 119" of elevation adjustment which is outstanding.
and if any Leupold goes bad, an actual repaired scope comes back in less than a month. I've only had one fail and when I got it back, I won more matches with it than all other scopes I've owned including Nightforce.

I had one viper pst 4x16x50 and while it was a nice scope with plenty of features it was no where near a conquest optically. I sent it back because it had a freckle on the reticle and when I got a new one back I sold it and bought another conquest.
I have mounted lots of Lupys, Zeiss, swaro, Nightforce, and about everything else out there on these SMLs and I have killed a lot of scopes, some just out of the box and with no particular brand being singled out either. hard kickers are hard on any scope and these guns unsaboted fit the description..
I would like to try a new VX-6 and the new Nightforce just out to see how they stack up but funds and Momma says NO right now...

I mounted a cabelas euro model on a gun I built for a friend, three shots and it went black, it was toast. needless to say neither of us were impressed, he returned it and bought a conquest...all is well..
just make sure whatever you buy they stand behind their stuff, If it can be broke you likely will with a 300 grainer @ 2600+

Rlp10ml, Next binos I am set on Leica Geovid. Know they are heavy but I am tired of carrying a rang finder and binos. I run a set of the original p Pentax UFC 10x42 and have been well pleased.
Somebody mentioned leupold having a great repair policy. Not so. I bought a variX3 that would not track out of the box and they flat out told me that was basically okay. I like leupold glass but that was the end of that.
YMMV

Not sure if anyone here will even accept that they might compare but I have had good success with swfa's super sniper series. They are decent enough glass to shoot your best groups and you will not rattle one loose. I have a 50bmg that's been wearing one for ~680 shots and it still box tests fine. In the pricepoint that is being discussed you might not be into the variable power SS scopes, I can't quite remember, but just wanted to put it out there that they will take a beating.

I order the meopro on special from camera land. I have to get my gun back from Luke and I'm waiting for my stock. So ii'm a couple months out yet. What about mounts now? I like the idea of he dnz or talley.

I'm with Hillbill. These smokeless guns shooting 70 gr H4198 with 310 gr bullet loads are death to many scopes. Scope equipment too. That being said, one of my cheapest scopes is one of my favorites--Nikon Omega 3-9. It has not broken and it has the best eye relief. I will only use solid one_piece bases like "Murphy" and Burris Tactical rings (6 screws per ring).

I have 3 Vortex scopes a Crossfire II 6-18 on my .22, a PST 4-16 on my .45 SML and a PST 6-24 on my longrange .243, I also have 2 Nightforces a NXS 5.5-22 X 56 thats going on my .416 and an Atacr 5-25 X 56 that is on my 260 longrange rifle. I have to say the Vortex is worth it for their price range, but they are no Nightforce....

The meopro showed up! I don't have anything here to compare it to. My dad has a couple of $250 Leopoulds that I will have to do back to back against. I can say it is lighter, brighter and smoother than I expected. I got the #4 recycle that might take a little getting used to. It will be twilight shortly so I will see how good it is in low light.

So what if I have a Leupold fancy scope that cost $1,300 15 years ago and it has done well on a cf with medium kick-- maybe shot 5 times a year if at all. I have no receipt and in fact a police buddy bought them for us and we paid him cash. Would you risk it on a hard kicking smokeless gun? How many company's honor warranties when you can't prove you bought it?

IIRC leupold will honor their lifetime warranty with no receipt no questions asked ....Just send it to them ....It's one reason I am not worried about buying a used leupold...
