Posted this earlier on Ozarks back porch [probably the wrong forum although I did get a couple of funny answers] Killed another mature buck with bow in November and he had a patch of hair missing from his back. Have saw this previously and wondered what caused it. rubbing, fighting, bugs or what is the cause??? wayles

Is it just the hair with the hide intact? They do fight a bit with hooves. I have seen deer that had hair gone from a grazing shot, hide damaged too. It could be some skin/hair ailment or parasite.

It's from going through barbed wire fences.

Agree with slugger, usually from deer that prefer to go under fences rather than jumping them.

The patches are hair only , no barb wire cuts on the hide. patches occur from right behind shoulders to back of ribs and some times down the side a little on one side or another. Patches vary in size from 5x6" to as large as 12 x 14" all measurement are only approximations and are not necessarily uniform. Some patches running down the sides make me believe its fighting or parasites. Seems to be bucks only. Have not seen a doe with this problem, which again leads me the fighting thing. Wayles
