I'm washing and putting some hunting clothes away for the year and was wondering what others are using for detergent. I've used baking soda for years. Am I behind the times? Is something better?

I have used Sport Wash quite a bit and I have used baking soda also. I am trying Tide free right now (still undecided on it). I believe it is important to avoid detergents with UV brighteners, I have read that animals can pick up UV and from my experience they are likely correct.

I never wash them! When I first get them I run them through the wash with woollite to take some of the UV stuff of . After that I only hand wash the blood off with Ivory soap or just plain water, Not chlorinated tap water but good clean river water.

YOU PUT YOUR HUNTING STUFF AWAY Just the early season stuff. Our bow season ends on the 16th and we've got a doe hunt the 17th 18th and 19th. Right now It's colder than a brass toilet seat in the Yukon, with a heavy cover of snow. I'm getting a knee replacement on the 20th and just not up to going out and looking for them. Illinois and Missouri had a relatively poor season for a number of reasons. We had not seen many does this season, so for whatever the cause I figured to leave some seed for next year. I too am concerned with the UV brighteners. Is woolite free of then? I also wash them sparingly. But they really need a trip through wash. I was wondering if scent free dish soap would be free of the brighteners.Mike

I've used several brands over the years. The only combo I've found that has them coming out of the machines with no detectable odor to me is dead down wind detergent and dead down wind dryer sheets. Every other product cleaned them, but left a unique odor.

Tide....Then hunt depending on wind direction. Can't fool a deer's nose so just be clean and comfortable

Well water here no chlorination. Usually only wash the duofold, under armor, sox, shirts and pants regularly. Baking soda whenever I get a lot of blood on stuff like outer wear bibs, coveralls, carharts, jackets and coats ie... don't usually get washed unless severly contaminated with blood or body fluids. After washing they get at least a couple days in a storage bin with wax myrtle and pine boughs. And what wilmsmeyer said. ....Then hunt depending on wind direction.
