Hello, I have recently found this forum and have a few questions. Those of you that shoot an Encore 45-70 smokeless conversion, what bullets are you using with the .458 bore? I am also wondering if I wanted or needed to, can I shoot blackthorn or 777 out of this barrel/breech plug. I would like to eventually like to build a 700 ml, but for now I have an empty Encore frame that needs filled. The slufoot conversion is really reasonable, are there any other options for the Encore. Any help is appreciated.

Tc280 Most are shooting 40 caliber sabotless but some are shooting .451 bullet with a slight knurl to help tighten them up. It is possible to shoot a black powder sub in these barrels. Other options are smokeless muzzleloder inc or Burberry custom. There may be others but those two are most popular.

The .40 195 barnes,200gn sst both saboted in a light blue harvester sabot the barnes might need some knurling for best accuracy, then sabotless 275 match hunter,250 barnes tz flat base,250 sst....Good luck finding a 45/70 barrel to convert....

Have Encore conversion. 200 gr. 40 cal/10mm XTP or 200 gr. 40 cal SST work great with slight knurl. In my conversion I find the ribbed blue sabots work great as the bore is VERY tight, hammer down, with smooth sabots. In my remmy 700 MLs with bolt nose and savage BP upgrade but original remmy 45 barrels the smooth sabots with those same bullets work great with BH209. Yeah, if regs require the conversions work fine with BH209 or Holy Black. Forget the other subs. JM $.02, 10 ga
