I went to the old board an did a search on the Choate Ultimate Sniper stock I didn't find anything. Just curious to see if anyone has put one of these on a 10ml. I know they're heavy. Just looking for input. Warren

I have one I used temporarily to test with. They are heavy and the "checkering/stippling" is very sharp. You could almost cut your hands on it. I have it in the closet. I probably should get rid of it but I have a disease called "acquiring". I get things and then I never get rid of the same. My wife says when I die what will she do with all the gun stuff that she does not even know what it is. I did limited shooting with it, I did not find it any more accurate than my bedded/pillar stocks. I guess I could always use it on a varmint Savage but I doubt I will. Just a moment of weakness purchase.

I haven't used a Ult. Sniper, on anything, but I have had my hands on one, and I didn't really liek the way it felt. The forearm just didn't feel quite right to me. Recently I have used 2 Ultimate Varminters on a couple Savage Target Action .20 BR's builds. I really like this stock much better than the Sniper. They have a real nice straight taper beaver tail forearm. They are heavy, and I did a little machining out of the receiver area and installed 3 pillars and bedded the receiver and 2" forward of the recoil lug. The Varminter is a dream to shoot on the bench and prone.
If I am not mistaken, the Choate's are now being made for the new 4.400" hole spacing (center feed) and will not match up to the 4.250" hole spacing of the 10ML-II. I guess it could be made to fit with some work though.

I like the varminter better also. I thought the 10 ml was the same as a model 10? Has something changed? Or was I wrong to start with?

I have a collection of sniper/law enforcement rifles and one of my Savage .308 rifles does have the Choate Ultimate Sniper stock on it. I have never checked to see if one of my 10MLII would fit in it since i never had the desire to use it like that, but i don't see why it wouldn't fit..........without the ramrod slot of course........... BTW, it is extremely heavy and the textured pattern of "checkering" is almost dangerous to the touch! It is abnormally aggressive and hurts if you grip it too tightly! Some light sanding takes off the sharp edges though. It is a fairly good stock for a sniper rifle though and i like the full length aluminum bedding block as well as the adjustable cheek rest..........plus they sure do look cool . I'll post a photo of my rig when i get a chance. KerryB

I like the varminter better also. I thought the 10 ml was the same as a model 10? Has something changed? Or was I wrong to start with? The model 10ML-II is the same as the pre-center feed or staggered feed model 10. In 2007 Savage started switching over from the staggered feed magazine, to the new center feed magazine. The older staggered feed model 10 has a screw hole spacing of 4.250" and the new center feed model 10 has a screw hole spacing of 4.400". It is my understanding, that Savage is keeping the screw hole spacing on the 10ML-II at 4.250", since is has no magazine cut. Make sure you measure the screw spacing before order a Choate, then make sure you order the correct one. To the best of my knowledge Choate still offers the 4.250" short action stock. I purchased my 2 from Brownell's about 6 months ago. I checked this morning and they show have both the 4.250" and the 4.400" in stock.

When I ordered mine I just got it for the short action but then the new spacing was not yet out so that was not a problem. If you call and give them the spacing as others have said I am sure they could fix you up.
