I have allot of saved data about what sabots work best with the 300grn XTP (non-mag) but I would like to absolutely sure on this. I would like to try to push it at around 2200-2250fps. I have allot of different powders left and would like to put them to use. Like N-110, N120, RL-7, and IMR-4198, and SR-4759 that I do not use as my present favorite loads use RL-10X and H-4198. Just looking for another reason to shoot more with different loads.
Thanks, Arthur.

ART, 62 GRS OF RL7 SHOULD GET YOU THERE. I WILL BE SHOOTING THIS VERY LOAD TOMORROW AND WILL CHRONY IT. FUNNY THING, WHEN I SEEN YOUR POST I WAS JUST CONTEMPLATING THE SAME IDEA.

FWIW, I was just chronographing some stuff last weekend and one of my favorite loads averaged right around 2160. You'll need a little more powder to reach your velocity goal.
63.0 RL7 -- Harvester S Black -- .452/300 XTP
Harvester SB's have done well for me at a little higher velocity too, but I did not like the recoil and backed off to 60 to 63 grains.

Harvester short black sabots fit and shot the 300XTP bullets better than the MMP sabots in my gun. Steve

My choice for a sabot has to be rcr. By far the most consistent for me. I think you will have alot of fun with that combo and the IMR 4198. Good Luck Rocky

Red crush rib works great with .452 bullets...

Short Black Harvester or RCR and 58g of N120 should get you 2200 fps.

In my gun I do better using the HPH12 with .452 bullets. I wish the red crush ribs would work as they are cheaper, but you gotta go with what works. The short black harvesters just don't load tight enough for me.

Thanks to all for the replies, exactly what I needed. Could someone please post the item # for the Harvester short black sabot? I want to buy the exact one you guys are using and "Arthur proof it" so to speek. Im to also assume the short black Harvester sabots are a NON-CRUSHED RIB design as well?
Thanks again, Arthur.

The best sabot will be one that fits very snuggly. The best way to determine that is to get a sample of the ones listed above and shoot them.
At your speed goal you MAY be at sabot blowing pressures with "book" powders...or at least close enough to possibly see erratic results that are NOT the sabots fault. With that in mind, you may want to shy away from N110, 4759 and surely 5744 to reach 2200 with 300 gr bullets...IMO IMO!!
Possibly N120 or that class of powder would be the best starting point coupled with a snug fitting sabot...whichever sabot that ends up being.

Sounds like to me, you may want to try 63.0gr of Reloader 7 and MMP HPH-24 (short finger) sabots, with that 300gr XTP. This load is good for 2260 FPS for me out 2 of my 10ML-II. Also good for sub-MOA as well.

Art,
I called Harvester-check websit for phone no. and they sent me a few sabots free of charge to test in my gun to see which worked best. Turns out it was the short blacks with the 300 gr XTP's for me. This way you won't have a lot of surplus sabots that don't work in your gun. Mark

I tried Re-7 and never looked back. I shoot a hefty dose of 65 grains behind a precision 400 grain bullet with a sub base no misfires not to weather finicky, as our weather her changes from warm to very cold over night then back warm again. I figure this will be my powder from now on so I bought 5#. lou
