Does anyone have any pro/con info on Richards Micro fit stocks? I just ordered one in black laminate/safari Monte Carlo.

Ditto on what Hillbill said. I did one for one of our members and it was a lot of hand sanding. Then sealing and sanding and sealing and coating and sanding and coating.......if you get the drift? But yes, it can look good when completed. Richard

I have had over a half dozen of their stocks. I think they are good for the money but take a lot of work. If your time is not of too great a concern they are worth it.

Unfornately today, if you want a custom stock blank, you only have a very small number of places to go to. I have done dozens and dozens of Richards Stocks over the years, ever since Fajen got out of the custom stock market, in the late 1980's. Their stocks today (since under new ownership) are a vast improvement over the stocks they offered just 3-4 years ago, and lite years ahead of the stocks they wer emaking 20 years ago.
That said, be prepared for some inletting of the action, which is about 80% inletted IMO, the barrel is also only about 70-75% inletted for the 10ML-II, and the exterior, although better than they used to be, still requires lots of sanding. It took 5 months to get the 4 stocks, that I am currently working on in. Those are the cons.
The pro's are you get plenty of wood to work with and shape. The grade of wood is almost always better than ordered, even though this doesn't apply to laiminates. They do have lots of style, contours, and wood selection to chose from. Prices are very reasonable for the product you get.

Tarheel: If you go back to about page 2 of this site around April 2 or a bit earlier 1 shot, 1kill and I had some photos of our Richard's Microfit stocks listed under that heading. They were not laminates but it gives you a bit of an idea what you can end up with. Good sanding.
