Has anyone used the conversion kit with just the breech plug and not the adapter (for lack of better term). It looks to me like it would work, and you would not get the problems of the spent primer falling out (yes you would have to pop it out of the bp with a priming tool.

I have the NFPJ but never thought to use it without the adapter. Not sure about a problem with spent primers "falling out". Do mean spent primers sticking in the adapter ... and difficulty getting them out ?

I've capped 3 primers tonight, I put them in the breech plug, the bolt face once closed held the primer in place. I popped them and then removed them from the bp with the other end of the primer tool, it seemed to work and I see no reason that it won't, and no real difference in operation as the primer is pushed and sets against the bolt face anyway you might get a little more blow back out the side where the bolt is open.

It does work, POI is the same, amount of blow back is probably the same. It's a pain though you almost need another hand to prime it, depriming takes a little more leverage than I figured it would but prying against the front of the bolt opening it does come out. I shot both of the extreemes and after about 4 or rounds apiece put the primer holder back in. I'm back to thinking that on a hunting trip I would use the plastic jackets

Not sure if trust the STS for hunting in colder weather.
