I wanted to try some 100gn montek's this year...all they had at the local store was 85gns. in stock....I noticed the Hell raiser head looked like a montek clone and they came in a 4 pack...I picked a package up and will see how they fly shortly. Anybody use these heads...? Good ,Bad or Ugly......? Greenhorn

Yes I have used them and they are sharp and tough. They don't have a very large cutting diameter but that doesn't matter one bit. The ones that I have used were very well balanced and shot well. You won't be disappointed with them at all.

Thanks Doug....a couple bowhunting friends of mine are all into the field point thing and want an arrow that will shoot a broadhead the same,so they both bought rages last year and I warned both of them about waiting on the perfect broadside or quartering away shot...they both lost deer with the rages ....... My theory is to practice with what I'm going to be hunting with.....I shoot into a large/thick Block of styrofoam......I wanted a resharpenable head and get away from replaceable blades....I have found that those replaceable blades can break and if they break they are not making blood trail.....I hope these Hell raisers will shoot straight and KILL....... An arrow with a point with blades sticking out to catch the air is not going to fly exactly the same as a field point as the arrow exhibits a different dynamic with each point. You are smart to practice with the head that you will shoot in the field as you can make adjustments just one time to accommodate that particular point. Also, a fixed blade broadhead will penetrate slightly better than a mechanical because part of the penetrating energy is lost as the blades are forced open into the hide of the animal.
That little sharp hellraiser will do that job as well as anything if you do your job of putting it into the rib cage of the animal. As far as hitting large bone.....well, you better be shooting an 80 lb bow with a small chisel point to penetrate that and be sure of hitting vitals.
Wishing you great fortune in your hunting expeditions this year!

I switched from the Spitfires to the 100gr G 5 Montecs last year. Should have had a hair test but the sun wasn't shining on this dogs butt that day. ;D
They shoot as good as any mechanical I have shot over the years but I like being able to sharpen my own blades. Plus in the long haul, they will probably be more economical as long as you don't hit rocks and damage them.
Was talking to a friend at the range recently who also is shooting the G 5's. He made a bad shot on a buck last year, blew straight through the spine and buried the arrow up to the fletch in the dirt. Took another deer that was a boiler room shot, traveled less than 50yds, pass through. Pretty sure he said he is shooting 60lbs. He is sold on the Montec!
Doug is a "straight shooter" IMO. If he feels the Hell Razor is field worthy, I tend to believe he is giving good advice. Always had good results with NAP products in the past personally.

Yeah Dave.. they were what I was going to try but I couldn't pass up the 4 pack for the same price.3 packs for a dozen instead of 3......I spin tested one this morning and no wobble whatsoever.....after Isaac blows through I will see how my bow likes them....... Greenhorn

I have chosen to use these new broadheads this year. These are the QAD Exodus available in 85 and 100 grains and only the three blade version is offered. Super sharp and the blades are tough. They do spin very nicely also on my VAP arrows. The swept back version is not legal in all states. I do believe that too much emphasis is put on the importance of a broadhead when any sharp head will do the job if placed in the rib cage of a whitetail. I look for sharp, balanced and strong but most of all I practice shooting the broadheads until I can hit a two inch dot consistently from 30 yards inward.

I saw those and like the design...give us a torture/hair test report when you can.....I'm wondering how those blades will hold up...... Greenhorn Maybe I should have developed another thread for this but what the heck. Here is a picture of the result of me dragging a QAD Exodus broadhead across my arm to check for sharpness. You will see that I nicked myself. It was pretty hard to do at the right angle with a three blade head. I don't think I will try that again.....LOL The blades are pretty sharp but not crazy sharp. They are also not quite as tough as I thought they would be but the breaking off of a blade could have been the result of it hitting a field point of another arrow. Here you will see the result of shooting the blades continually into a foam target that I made out of insulation sheets. All in all I have to scratch my head and wonder why I would be trying a new head when my Magnus Stingers have never failed me. But you know how we are......we just gotta be experimenting all the time for something new and improved. Doug

I came across broadheadtalk.com and some of the guys there have tested just about any broadhead that is out there. the montecs showed a little more penetration than the hell raisers .....one head that was new to me was the red feather archery one-piece head....it seemed to do well....what I did notice was when the shooter shot mechanicals through a 1/2" piece of wafer board 50% broke a blade off confirming my reason for going fixed blade and also one-piece........
