I've went back threw the old board 30 pages or so and now have more questions than I did before. I would like to shoot sabots and 200 gr bullets (I will probably hunt with the 195's). I've even went as far to order the barrel and then I dug up more questions. I've ordered a 26" SS 1:22 bead blasted barrel, didn't think to ask the # of groves but I'll probably call and check the next couple of days (from what I can tell it either will be a 6 or 8 and I think I'd prefer the 8. The 2 questions that have come up today is I think a 24" would suit my needs better, and the 1:22 will it work with sabots. Any idea's would be appreciated.

I would think a 1-22 should be a very good choice in the .45. It should shoot the saboted and sabotless well. Length is up to you. Everbody seems to have a little different preference. Mine is a 26 and seems to be a common length. 24 would be fine too.I'm not sure on the lands and grooves but I think its pretty standard. There is an extra lapping process if wanted. I believe it is called the super match barrel.Good luck with your choice!

I got intrested in this 45 cal barrel on a Savage about 2 weeks ago and have already bothered the poor lady at PacNor several times !
I already have a 10ML that's one of the Pre Accutrigger rifles and am in the process looking for another in decent used shape as a donor for a barrel job !
To may way of thinking the 10ML with a 45 cal barrel shooting a 200 grain SST will be about the equal to a 308 shooting a 150 grain SST as far as deer are concerned . As long as one can get the 45 barrel to shoot 1 MOA or better I can see nothing negative to getting one set up .
I taked with the lady at PacNor about getting a chromemoly barrel as opposed to stainless . For no other reason then I would like the 45 when done to match my present 10ML which is blued and synthetic .
Rjhans I am intrested to hear how the barrel works out for you once you start shooting !

Thanks everyone, just because I'm sort of a curious fellow. Knight originally came out with a 45 with a 1:22 twist, very finicky rifle, and because it was such a bear they quietly change to 1:30. Can anyone explain why the pac-nor shoots and the knight didn't

Possibly from trying to please everyone, the guy shooting full bore conicals or powerbelts to the guys shooting saboted bullets of varying weights? Perhaps the best compromise?

Can anyone explain why the pac-nor shoots and the knight didn't I have a 45 Knight Disc I purchased when they first brought it out . Mine does very very well with 110 grains of granulated Triple 7 3F and the Hornady 200 SST and lit with a CCI209M . I have no idea what my twist is but since it was the first one here locally when they brought them out I would "assume" mine is a 1:22 although I am by no means sure of this !

guys, whatever length you choose I think you will be very pleased with pacnors barrels, I have limited experience with mine (8 shots) but I think it will be a real shooter. there has been no negitave feedback from anyone that I have read, overall I would say its money well spent...Bill

I agree with Hillbill. I have not heard any neg. from the Pacnor owners. They seem to shoot exceptinaly well with a very broad range of loads. The .45 probably handles light 200 grain bullets all the way up to 300 with some of the best accuracy ever posted on this board.
I also read on the other site about the Knights not being able to shoot with thier version of the 1-22 twist barrel. I do not have a good answer for that! I'm sure there are guys on this board that could get it to shoot unless the bore is way off in diameter.
