i shot the ml 2 yesterday in 20 mph winds. i picked up 30 300 gr xtp's and headed down to my range. i put on a burris 3x9 bp and shot at 50 yds. after the zeroing, i shot 3 into an inch. i used black short sabot instead of the supplied one. for the heck of it i shot the prefered load of 250 sw and hornady sabot. 3 shots. powder was 45 grs 5744 and win primer. all six shots grouped together, 2 inches , weird, but good. i'm not complaining, just wondering why? also i did find a barnes tmz that i shot last week. didn't open up, and had rifling on it. hmmmm. i did clean the bp, boy was it caked with junk. i drilled it out. thats a good load in my ml. deer aren't that tough. thanks.

Good shooting Your TMZ blew the sabot and probably tumbled. That is why it has rifling and may be why it did not open up. edge.

That boat tailed design on the TMZ is a bunch tougher on sabots and you likely just drilled it. Would probably have to drop the powder load significantly or use a different sabot or put washers under the bullet to get them to shoot well. Other guys have reported difficulty with boat tailed bullets as well.

that load i shot with RL7,65 grs. and now that i think about it, the sabot could have and most likely was a ez glide sabot! that would explain it huh?

Nope, The blue EZ glide sabots are just as tough as the yellow sabots. I have shot them up to 68 grains of RL-7 and 46g of N110 without blowing a sabot. They didn't even have missing petals. In order to shoot the blue sabot you will have to have a very tight bore. If you can load the blue sabot with one hand then it is to loose. IMO a loose fit will make these bullets tumble but 65 grains of RL-7 has lower pressure than your 5744 load. Steve

tmz was shot with a ez glide sabot[yellow] from a tc shockwave. at the time i thought they were the supplied barnes sabot, last month i had done a trade with one of my brothers and got all of his ml stuff. he had separaded all the bullets from the sabots. my ml has a tight bore and with the ez sw they all went off, but went pop in his ml. i have never tried the blue ones, i'm sure they would work.

The TC sabot is your culprit. It is designed for a flat base bullet and you were shooting a boatail bullet. The TMZ can only be shot with the yellow or blue sabot that is made for the boatails. I have heard that Havester now has one that will fit the TMZ's. Steve

You can expect anything except satisfaction shooting a boat tailed bullet in a sabot designed for any other type bullet. Keyholing, wild shots, drilled sabots. If anything should be printed in bold red letters it is that Boattailed bullets require specially designed sabots. Nothing N O T H I N G else will work well.
