A few weeks ago I posted where I'd modified my Ruger breechplug and changed to CCImag primers so that my Ruger would consistently shoot Blackhorn. At that time I didn't shoot it for accuracy, only established the fact that it fired without a hangfire after 20 or so shots. Today I took it out along with my Savage to see how she would shoot. My first attempts were less than encouraging. I started with 250gn XTP's and 275gn Parker BE's and 110gn BH. After a couple rounds shotgun patterns were the best I could get. You can see those taped holes on the photo. I then put it away and shot my Savage @ 200yds with 67gns RL7 and 300gn .458 Remington HP and 300gn .451 XTP's. When done there I pulled out the Ruger again and decided to shoot the 300gn .458 Remingtons and 300XTPS with 110gn BH through it. The 300 gn .458 Remingtons made my day. That is the best group I've ever shot with any of my rifles. I don't see many shooting .458 bullets in their BP rifles but I'm sold on them. They shoot the best in my Savage also, both Barnes Originals and Remingtons. I just thought I'd share this with you. Zen

WOW, excellant shooting. Can you post some more pics of your gun and new plug? I'm glad someone else is shooting.

That's a nice group ! I'd be pround to post that too. I'm not too familar with the Ruger 77/50. Just curious, do you know the true bore diameter ? Also what sabots did you try with both bullets ... and how did tight did they load ? Thanks for sharing your results.

Grouse The only thing I did to the breechplug was open the flash hole up from .028 to .035. and change to a hotter primer. Before I did this it would hangfire about half the time with Winchester primers. There are some pictures on page 1 of this forum. robnj; dave d......The proof will be in further shooting. One group is only one group. Also we'll see if it shoots at 200yds. Those Remingtons shoot the same way out of my Triumph. Could be that I end up shooting one bullet with Black Crushed Rib sabots in all three of my ML'ers. I like the price also. Thanks Zen

Zen, Very nice shooting. I hope further testing will work out for you. It would be nice to have one bullet shoot well out of all three guns. Steve
