I am thinking about bedding my farrell mount, I have some JB weld but was wondering what would make a good release agent to apply to the receiver.
also when you do this do you just barely snug the screws down while the bedding sets up??

I use Johnson Paste Wax when I bed my rifles, haven't had one stick yet. Usually when I do a scope base, I cover the whole bottom with Loctite, they'll stick down pretty good.

Cowboy- If you go back to page three to thread-Bedding one piece base, page three will walk you through how I did mine. Worked great! Kiwi natural shoe polish. Apply, let dry.buff,do again. I made sure the screws and inside of heads were really covered with release. I cleaned up with q-tips dry , then dipped in acetone for final clean up. Don't get acetone on gun finish.

Cowboy.......I have been doing this for years and use any of neutral shoe polishes: Kiwi or whatever. Also, I do not buff, but suspect it works fine also. I just apply and make sure there are no "globs". As far as acetone? (its pretty similar to lacquer thinner) I wipe excess off the Savage laminated stocks with lacquer thinner with no effect on the finish. I believe Savage uses a catalyzed urathane finish which lacquer thinner does not touch. Richard

No on the pam cooking spray!! I tried the pam spray once and it would not release. I never really rapped on the mounts very hard, just tightened the screws and figfured I would worry about it when I had to remove them.

I used Pam when bedding the stock on the 10MLII. NEVER AGAIN! It might be OK with the small area on scope mounts, but even without any mechanical locks, it was very hard to get out, and took some rapping with a mallot to finally release. A good quality wax works much better.

I have extra release agent from the AccuGlass kit from Brownell's so I use that until it is empty. I will try wax after that.

Definitely NO on the Pam. It is too greasy! You want something that dries hard like the paste waxes or hard type shoe polishes. Richard
