Been a long time coming, but she's done and running. Sorta camoed in the table thou.
Base gun started life as a 45cal 700 ML, I added a 26" Shilen 14 twist barrel, then revamped breechplug and bolt nose to hold the primer like a Savage, bedded it in a VLS stock, topped it off Nikon 5.5-16 in Leo PRW rings and mounts.
Some of you may remembered Smokeeters moose killing, deer killing, 700ML from last fall, mines the twin, actually, I have the same LVSF stock as his too (and webbed with the same can of Krylon, thanks Paul) but I'll stick with the wood for a bit yet, especially after this morning run sabotless.
As some of you know (and I thank all of you for putting up with me thru this and the never ending sixty questions), I've been pulling my hair out the last couple of weeks trying to get some decent accuracy sabotless with this thing, she's a laser with sabots, but gave me fits going naked.
So yesterday on the advice of a couple of fellow board members, I picked up some 300gr SST's and sized them down to a nice snug friction fit this morning. Started out with everything clean, fired 3 fouling shots and things are finally starting to come together.
Lower right was the first 3 shot group with 50gr of H4198 and a lubed wool wad, Remington STS primer. The top group was 56gr of same powder, same wad, same primer, but POI shifted left for whatever reason. Low shot was #2, that bullet seated a tad easier, but it probably was the trigger puller .
Middle group was sorta suprising, I had 3, 60gr vials of Benchmark left from last week, so figured what the heck, boy, first 2 shot were a eye opener, then I choked big time on the third, called it before I even looked back thru the scope diffently the guy behind the trigger on that one.
So, I'm a happy camper this afternoon, but I'll giver her another run in the morning to see if I can back this up, and then try and get real serious with this thing.
