Before I got on to the BH209, it's all I would use. Never got nearly the consistency with subs that I could get with the real thing. Yes, speeds were a little slower but I could always count on a gun left loaded to go bang with the same speed as if I was shooting from the bench.
Other then the filth, and it really isn't that bad, I would use it in a heartbeat if BH209 went away.
I have no use for Pyrodex, Triple 7 &, clean shot or anything pelletized. Shockey Gold was never tried but from the reports I've heard (other then Jim Shockeys') it just another sub that has shown to be inconsistent.
The biggest issue with the subs seems to be the way it soaks up moisture. I spilled a few granules of Pyrodex on my shooting bench in the basement one time and overnite they turned into little blobs of mushy liquid as they soaked up the moisture in the air. Black powder is resilient in terms of keeping dry. I was in my infancy of muzzleloading and was basically on my own...subject to reading magazines about it and talking to others just starting out.

Not in about 20 years. Been using SMokeless for the last 13 years. Now its all about BH209 the wonder powder.

I use the real black for most of my shooting. It is consisent, easy to ignite and, of course, dirty. It really doesn't matter though because I clean my guns after shooting anyway. Swiss black powder is suppose to be a lot cleaner but I haven't used it yet.

I gave up on the subs long ago and have a variety of "Holy Black" on hand. I use it in my sidehammer PRB guns for sure and in several slamfires. Mostly 2 TC Firehawks and a White "Bison". Favored load for all the slamfires was 85 gr. of FFF Swiss behand 248 to 300 gr "belted" type bullets but developed lighter loads down to 50 gr of F behind a 225 gr. belted for the kids to hunt with. Mostly shoot Swiss FFF in the inlines but have Cannon, F, FF and FFFF grades of various powders on hand. Have Goex, KIK, and Black diamond as well as Swiss and it is all BP and dirty but no harder to clean up than the others. Have not tried any BH 209 as all my "closed bolt" guns are SMLs. Have a Bergara .45 ML barrel that is NIB but haven't felt the need to try it as my Encore 45-70 conversion is so good. 10

I use 2F black powder in my rifle. Shot the 50 gr, pellets with some bullets. Felt like that is pretty much all you could to improve the results. So....I pulled out a new can of 2F black powder from my powder chest. With loads of 100 gr and a Hornaday 250 gr XTP bullet, I can keep a 1 1/2 group at 100 yds. Shooting some Thompson Center plinking bullets with 80 gr of 2F black powder, I can do the same. Cleaning with a good cleaning solvent doesn't take long to do.

I do all the time. So what if its a bit dirtier, Swabbing keeps me occupied while waiting for barrel cooldown. The gibbs and sharps type guys have been proving long range accuracy with real black for 150 years. With better results than a lot of us can get today, In any system with any powder. I break down and completely clean all my guns after every use, and really see no great hardships over any other powder.

Muznut,
Not with inlines but still have a "first love" for black powder flintlock rifles. I have killed more deer with my flint long rifle than any other over the last 40 years.
The smokeless is just a fun addition.

Recently got 2 of the northwest CVA rifles with musket cap ignition. I can finally get Goex locally and so I wanted to use the older technology as its easier to find around here now.
I do swab between shots though.
