This test is from 50 caliber synthetic Savage. CCIM primers and no swabbing between shots. The gun has not been cleaned all season. I went to the hunting property hoping to give BO a good work out. I guess everybody guns are different because my gun do not like BO and 64 grains of Reloder-7. The only sabot I can use is the Orange MMP because the black Crush Ribs are to hard to seat. At 200 yards my bullets were spraying all over the target size paper. The wind was blowing 15 - 20 mph with gusting close to 30. Thinking the wind was messing with my BO accuracy I then broke out some 290 TMZ with 64 grains of Reloder-7. The picture is a five shot group of the 290 with the blue sabots. The sixth shot is a 250 TMZ with 44 grains of N110 powder which is my hunting load. IMO a 4.5" inch group @ 200 yards is not to bad for a completely stock gun. Shooting with wind gives me confident for those real world hunting situations. Just couldn't think of a better way to spend a day off. What is it about the smell of powder? Steve

fowlplay am very curious as to where you held in order to land those bullets several inches high at 200 and with only 2 or 3 inches of wind drift. Did you adjust your scope for this or did you use Kentucky windage and elevation? Just curious as I have not shot under those conditions on paper.

Looks like my 200 yd TMZ groups. Evenly dispersed. Not going to win prom queen but will bring home the meat every time.

If you just randomly chose 64 grains of R-7 to shoot the 290 TMZ in such a wind, that is an outstanding group but I will bet that you can tighten it up. I would move up and down a grain or two until you find the sweet spot. My Savage likes 68.5 grains of R-7 under the 290's. Keep shooting because it would be interesting to see what you might be able to do with the 290 TMZ. Lots of folks have problems with keyholing.
Is your scope zeroed at 200 yards?

speaking of keyholing, when i shot the 250 tmz last weekend, they were not going into the target straight. not really keyholing but could see where the base of the bullet was yawing.
in fairness to the tmz, i did have some good groups last year with the 285 barnes. i always worried they wouldn't open up on game, don't in the dirt.

Thanks for the nice comments. Dans, I did make a scope adjustment to compensate the wind horizontal drift. What surprise me was how high the TMZ were printing at 200 yards. Most of the BO were printing on the lower half of the target. Why the TMZ's print higher at 200 yard, I do not know but I'm not complaining. My gun is zeroed at 200 yards with 44 grains of N110 and a 250 TMZ. In the past Reloder 7 always printed higher at 100 yards than the N110. This is my first comparison of the two powders at 200 yards. Dougedwards, A few years ago I shot Reloder 7 from 64 to 68 grains of powder. 64 and 65 proved to be my best shooting loads. My groups started opening up as I went higher. I have never had any problems with keyholing even after couple hundred shots. My bore is very tight and I have to use the blue EZ glide sabots. The yellow sabots were so tight that I had a hard time trying to tell if it was seated. A real gut buster. Wilmsmeyer, I thought that group would look familiar to you. ;D

fowlplay......I am also impressed with your results. One day I might figure out how to shoot a muzzleloader Richard Richard, Once you figure it out please let me know. Notice I did not post my Barnes Original results. That is why I enjoy reading your results. You post the good, the bad, and the ugly. After seeing all these great 45 caliber results I was hisitant to even post my TMZ results. Those guys with those small caliber barrels can give a guy with a big caliber barrel a complex. ;D Steve
