They shot real good for me with 44gr N110 and RCR. I believe the opinion on this board is these bullets with fragment bad. I have not tried to shoot anything for that reason.

Are you talking the PT gold, their new ballistic tipped version, which I think is the same as their non-tip version with a tip? Toby Bridges swears by them, both 260 and 300 grain. Said he is shooting them up to 2200 fps in the new knight magnum ML with up to 150 grains of BH209 with sub-moa accuracy. I am ordering some to try, and hoping being plated they hold up better than non-bonded and obturate better than bonded/jacketed. Price is definitely a bonus

savedbyjc7,
Since these are a .451 diameter bullet and come with the black crush rib sabot they will probably be a little loose going down your barrel. You may have to get some red crush rib sabots and possibly even knurl up the bullets to get a good tight fit. Remember tight is right with loading pressure.
Are you going to get he funnel point mags or the pt gold. I think the pt stands for a partitioned bullet and usually they don't hold together as well at smokeless speeds. You can call harvester and see what they would recommend or perhaps someone here has shot them and can give you more info.
Any of the base recommended powders are a good starting point.
I like N110 and with that bullet you will get probably 2300 fps with a 43 to 44.5 grain load. I would start at around 41 grains and work my way up in 1 grain increments to see what your gun and that load like to shoot accurately.

THANKS YOU GUYS, I AM TALKING ABOUT THE NEW TIPPED VERSION. I CAN'T FIND VN110 AROUND HERE, 2200-2400 IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME. I LIKE PASS THROUGH PERFORMANCE, HAVE BEEN CONSIDERING 300XTP. ALSO I THOUGHT HARVESTER HAD A SABOT FOR THE .458 DIA BULLET, CAN'T SEEM TO LOCATE ON THEIR SITE. OR IS THE RCR THE CORRECT SABOT? THANKS AGAIN GENTS.

Yep, use the RCR with .458 bullets, these and the BO really are tight in my gun, but they do shoot. Mike

If it is the PT gold Version.....the PT means plastic tip.....and they are also 'bonded' bullets.

savedbyjc7,
Again be very careful of the tipped pt scorpion at these speeds it my not give you pass through it may break apart. I do not know for sure I just know that is what I have read about partitioned bullets at smokeless speeds. I would give harvester a call they are very helpful.
Harvester does not make or advertise a .458 sabot. Since the savage has a larger barrel diameter harvester makes the RCR for .451 - .452 bullets in a smokeless savage. What many are finding out is the BCR which comes with these bullets works well in a savage with a .458 bullet but the BCR are spec. to be used with .452 bullets in other muzzle loaders with smaller diameter barrels.
Hope this helps,

The Scorpion and Scorpion PT are just Rainier plated hex hollow points. Watch out for the tips on the PTs coming off.

I have been using them sabotless, they shoot with excellent accuracy, as good as Parkers, 53grs H4198, with ww, resized and knurled.

I had them shooting from 1-1.5" over 65 grains of N-120 with the supplied black crush rib sabot. Only problem is, if it wasn't hot (75+ degrees), it wouldn't ignite reliably. I tried some tighter fitting sabots (HPH 12 and Red Crush Ribs) with the same load, and the accuracy just wasn't there (2-3" groups). You could probably play around with different powders and weights and get the accuracy back, but I ended up just going to the Barnes Original and not looking back.

I couldn't get the 300gr Rainers to fly at all sabotless, like I totally missed my 32" target @ 100yds. Maybe the PT's are different, then again, I run a 14 twist, maybe it's too fast for them.

I use the same load [RB's data] with all sabotless bullets, my hunting bullet is the flat based 290gr. Barnes TMZ, If I deer hunted I'd use 300gr Parkers or the 300gr Scorpion gold, both are great shooters, the Parker I can use out of the box {I run them thru a .450 Lee die to make them round}, the Scorpion I resize and knurl, same as the TMZ.
