Guys I was going to do a CVA Apex 4570 SML conversion but just got word that my cousin sold my late uncles tool and die company, Oh well it was 380 miles from me anyway, so now my plans have changed. My ex. girl friend gave me an old 243 M70 win barrel action and I was hoping that Cecil at PR would do the conversion but he doesn't want to mess with it, I'm thinking of buying the barrel from him anyway and find a good smith to thread the outside of it and install it but wanted to get opinions of other options.

That changes it, if it was an old pre-64 CRF it would be a crime to convert it.
I wouldn't go with a Green Mountain barrel from Cecil when you can get a better barrel direct from Pacnor, McGowen or even a Shilen. I learned a long time ago the more the barrel maker can do the better. If you can get a contoured and pre-fitted (threads cut for action) barrel that is the important things. If you get a breechplug a few thousandths off no big whoop. You get the contour or barrel threads/shoulder off your screwed. The barrel makers work with barrels all day long and have the specialized equipment to do it fast and precise.

Thanks for the response rossman I have a few more questions,I think I need Petes 45acp plug but I was wondering if it has the same threads as the 10ml2 or if Pacnor threads for Petes plug?

IIRC Pete's plugs are pretty much the same as far as thread dimensions as the Savage plug.

Pete makes 2 45acp plugs 1 for Savage and one for Remington. Depending if you have a barrel nut or not.

Jon I wont have a barrel nut and I assume that petes rem plug is shorter so I think that would be better but are the threads just as long and strong as the savage style plug?

The Remington plug has the same threads as the Savage plug just the unthreaded nose is almost gone. Edge and Daved came up with the Remington plug for lugged bolt actions.
