Savage had replaced my barrel, and now the gun shoots all over the place. The stock is laminated, and the action is bedded. When it was placed in a plastic stock (at the factory), it would shoot close to 1 inch groups at 100 yards. In the laminate, its all over the place.
How can I fix this problem, as how I only have the laminate here at home? What should I look for? Before the barrel was replaced, it shot about 1 inch groups at 100 yards, until I hosed that barrel up :-(
Thanks,
kb

from what you are saying , it has to be the laminate stock, I would check for pressure points where the gun is contacting the stock. Also check your bedding and make sure there isn't any unnecessary torque on the action.

The recoil lug may not be in the exact position that it was when the gun was bedded. I would re-bed the recoil lug.

I 2nd the rebeding of recoil lug, also check to make sure your new barrel is still free floating and if barrel nut was bedded also rebed it.

Hate to be a bearer of bad news but, my gut feeling is, it will never shoot despite what Savage says it did "in a plastic stock at the factory"

if you had asked Joe DeGrande,he would have sent you the test targets, if HE said it shot 1" groups, you can take it to the bank. I would also call HIM, and explain your problem

Agree about it needing to have the bedding redone.

I'm just curious as why Joe did not shoot it in YOUR laminate stock? Richard

Joe did send me the targets and the loads that were used in testing the gun. When I last spoke to him, he said that there was probably a problem with the bedding.
I will check the recoil lug and barrel nut area. I guess that the only way to fix it would be to remove the old bedding, and re-bed the gun?
I originally screwed up the original barrel by double loading it and bulged the barrel. Funny thing was that it still shot pretty good after that.

If you have iron sight still on the barrel then shoot at 50 yards to see if the bullets are not close.
If they look good at 50, then it is most likely the scope/base/rings. If not good then probably bedding.....
