In MLs, where you aren't shoving a groove size bullet down the pipe as you would on a chambered round, is copper fouling going to be as much a concern?

Rangeball, copper fouling is certainly a concern for sabotless shooting.

I agree it will still be a concern, but was wondering if perhaps not as much a concern as cartridge shooting and if such maybe they all will do an adequate job?

Range-I see where you are coming from but I think its a doubled edged sword. The muzzle-loaders does imprint the bullet less than center fire, with a lapped Pacnor it might have less tendencies for heavy build up. The downside is its shallow grip on the bullet would be more fragile to fouling or copper build up.(I think)

I suspect that with our muzzle loaders we are unlikely to get the amount of build up in most cartridge rifles. It takes us so long between shots we are unlikely to have nearly as many bullets fired down the bore. However, I suspect rexxer might be right about it being less tolerant of small amounts of copper build up.

I'm late in getting in on this one, sorry. One of the best things about Hopes #9 is the smell, takes me back to being a kid. For powder and for plastic, my ML, I like The TM Solution. I guess that it does such a good job on plastic that Dwewy plastic coated rods come with a warning not to use it or the plastic will come off. For copper, I have a rifle that loves to pick up massive amounts of it, Montana Extreme 50 BMG works good but I have found that Pro-Shot Copper Solvent IV works great and no ammonia smell. I don't think that there is any in there. I first didn't think that it was worth it untill after scrubbing a 223 barrel at my range with Montana's until the blue stopped apppearing on the patches one of the guys convinced me to try it. I ran a patch through and nothing, no blue at all. I said see, its clean. We talked for about 5 minutes and he told me to do it again. I ran another patch and it came out with bright blue streaks, big ones. I ran about 15 more patches through until the blue quit and I was very surprised at how much came out. I now use this for my centerfire rifles and am very pleased. It is also cheaper than most of the others. Sinclairs sells it to so that says something too.....

Anybody ever whipped up a batch or tried Ed's Red? How does it compare to the best mentioned in this thread?
