I poured Hot water down my barrel this evening. I just had a horrible day at the range today with my 45cal Knight Disc Elite. I assume i had or have plastic build up in the rifling. A forum member told me hot water is the fastest way to get rid of it. So i boiled water and flushed the barrel really well and ran alot of dry patches to. I also swabbed the barrel with alchohol patches to try and get rid of the water.
I hope that is my problem. I couldnt get anything to shoot good at all. XTP'S, SST'S, and Lehigh were all bad today. I hope i dont have a scope issue but i could i guess. I guess i will be shooting more this week. I need to get this gun ready for the hog hunt in a couple weeks. A good scrubbing and hopefully things will be back to normal. Reminds me of a Savage

As a newbie, all I can say, is make sure you run some dry patches through it to make certain it's completely dry. I cleaned mine tonight with hot water--not boiling and added a little dish detergent. I then put the front of the barrel in a plastic coffee container filled with 6 inches of the mix and plunge it...I know that sounds funny but if you tilt the barrel, you can actually make it sound like a plunger as you swap it with a patch. I then dry it by running two dry patches through it and do my breech plug in the same container...soap and water. I let them out overnight and after drying both and since mine is a break-open I break it open. Works for me! If you're not going to use it lightly lube it in the morning, grease the breech plug and replace it. Gees, I'm no expert like some of the folks around here, but hope you find the info useful. I've gotten more than my fair share of help here! Have a great day! :hat Dave

Tom, any ideas on how many rounds you had thru that gun? Over 100 for sure at 2400 to 2500fps. That's really not bad in my opinion.

Grouse... Are you saying the hot loads (2400 fps) you're shooting is probably causing the increased plastic fouling ? I don't know... but I would guess so. I occasionally used that "CVA Sabot Shooter's Solvent". In my case, it was just probably a bad day at the range.

Grouse, i know alot of peps do not like it, for i have found it to work really really well. But the Chiefs PRO Clean (Retriever)really does great job at removeing plastic fouling and leaves the lands and grooves sharp and very clean. It is made out of softer metal than any barrel and it will not scratch are harm the inside of a barrel.I just do not know it they make one for a Knight 45 cal,but if they do?It would fix you right up.Check it out,you want be sorry PS;Yep they have it for a knight 45 cal here is the link www.chiefsproclean.com/retriever.php

If it's last years powder I would just open a new can and try to see if things get better. BP subs can loose a lot of velocity and consistency especially Trip 7 and Pyrodex. It happened to me a couple of years ago. I thought the gun had gone south from the 2000 or so shots I've put through it but sure enough went and got a fresh can of Triple 7 and all was right in the world again. If I could only get those 50 or so bullets back that I sent all over the berm at the range I'd be even happier. I've since switched to Blackhorn 209 and have heard that BH209 won't degrade like other subs and I'm going to put that to the test later this summer. Open a new can and shoot that and the old powder thru the chrono to see if there is a difference from the open to fresh can. I'll let ya'll know what I find out.
What powder are you using that is getting 2400 fps in a BP gun? I know it's a 45 but I didn't know they were shooting that fast.
