If you were to build a rifle for the 300 grain Parker Match hunter sabot less what would you choose for a barrel? As in length, twist, brand, contour and less than 500.00. www.parkerproductionsinc.com/

Me personally, I would do a 28" 1-22 or 1-18 twist McGowan threaded for a brake. Probably sendero contour. I think the mcgowens are a bit looser than the pacs and a sizing die may not be needed for this bullet. I have a 26" 1-18 that is lights out with the 275be sabotless and I will probably start on the match hunters in a few weeks. I am building a 25" sendero contour pac-nor right now though, this will be strictly for the 195barnes.

For what gun? I would go heavier than the sendero for pushing that big of bullet to higher speeds. I would also wait a bit to see result for mine and hillbill's results with .442/.451 fullform. Hillbills barrel is in shipping, mine must take longer with a brake.

It will be on a 700 ml action. I am leaning towards a straight taper 23" barrel. The shorter barrel will help with the weight and barrel flex. The straight taper for better harmonics. Here a link that talks about barrel flex, harmonics and how bad Encore pro hunter barrels are. www.bellmtcs.com/store/index.php?cid=580

I have a 26" 1-18 twist McGowen that shoots 275gn Parkers very well. Just over 1" groups at 200yds. at 2650 ft/sec.

Jg and Mark What kind of sizing method are you using to shoot the parker's? I think I'm going Mcgowen on my next venture, ml1 sabotless 45 with Dave D's new bolt head conversion, a no limit gun ,lol...... Greenhorn

I would definitely have a lugged action. With a 1-20 krieger barrel at 28" with a #6 contour.

I've got a hunch that the barrel you two have ordered, when used with the Parkers, is gonna be a game changer! When you ordered your barrel from Pacnor, did you just tell them the barrel bore specs you wanted along with the need for it to be set up for a Savage breech plug? Thanks

My barrel is a mcgowen with a pistol bore size of .442/.452 and yes its set up for the savage plug. will it work? time will tell but I see no reason why it shouldnt do very well..
My goal is shooting full form parkers at speed without a wad accurately. this will be a purpose built gun and it will not be for everyone for sure, sizing each and every bullet that goes down the barrel will not be a simple task but with Toms adj die once I get the sizing figured out it should be as simple as setting the die on the desired setting and sizing as many bullets as will be needed pretty quickly.
I love a challenge and Im looking forward to this one, who knows, I might have a 500 dollar tomato stake and a 180 dollar die to use for a sinker??? Hopefully that will not be the case..
Im also looking forward to Gregs .416 barrel getting up and running, will be interesting...

i really think the .416 is going to be the next game changer. I am going to order a barrel as soon as i see how this turns out. already have another action for it. I know recoil is going to be stiff but paln on installing a brake.

Earnhardt-I've got a .451 coming from PacNor. Was not a problem for them to make prefit for a Savage.
