I think my search for a better deer bullet is over for my 40 PacNor. I started with a 210gr JSP (not "HP") .410" bullet and passed it through a Lee .401 sizer die. Finished diameter comes out from .4018 and .4020. Now I will need to get a finisher die of about .399" and knurl them a bit to have that perfect fit!! I tried pushing one through my barrel drop, but even keyed for the PacNor barrel it was still too hard to push down.
Lubricated them with my own secret formula ;D and it seems to work great. I didn't think it would be possible to get that much reduction in a single pass, but with a good lubricant it turned out to be a piece of cake.
This is a substantially tougher bullet than the XTP and is designed for the 41Mag so it should work much better in our applications. I can't wait to see how these babies will shoot at 2700fps!!

Designed for a .41 Mag, I would think 2700 fps would be almost double the intended speed range.

Designed for a .41 Mag, I would think 2700 fps would be almost double the intended speed range. Almost, but it is nearly three times the design speed for the 200gr XTP. 40 S&W 200gr = 1000fps 41Mag 210gr = 1570fps pistol 1700 rifle I already know from three deer killed last year that a 200gr XTP will fragment even if bones are not encountered. They are very effective at killing deer but destroy a lot of meat in the process. A shoulder shot at 2700fps would likely be much more so. These bullets are soft points, not hollow points and as such should be a much better choice at our velocities. If these resize well, which they appear to do then I can likely do the same with others also. A 300gr .411 Hornady interlock comes to mind or the 250gr Barnes Original. ;D Anyone need a 40 cal moose killer?
