I finally made my first kill on a deer over 200 yds. Last Saturday I killed a button buck at 210 yards. I've killed a coyote at 250 yards, but I was really wanting to take a deer. The round hit exactly where I wanted it to. The 300gr SST did a wonderful job.

Good shooting lefthand. I have yet to reach 200. I killed one three years ago at a lasered 199 yards. Got to the kill site and range back to my stand still got 199. I try and set up my stands for 100 yard shots in food plots and about 40-50 yards in the woods.

300gr sst is a great bullet what powder primer sabot combo do u use? 71.5gr of RE7 and HPH12 sabots. Groups are right at 1 MOA out to 300 yards, and have been very consitent over the years regardless of temp, from 60 deg, to -10. Over 60 deg, you only have one, or maybe 2 shots and then your done. It's not a good load for range work in mild to warm weather, and it kicks the liven snot out of me.

Congrats, bet you didn't feel that kick when you pulled the trigger on that deer.

That does sound like a healthy load (except from the deer's perspective). Good shot.

Yes, it is a healthy load, and no, I never feel the recoil while hunting. Even at the range, it normally takes several seconds for me to think about whether the recoil was a lot or a little.
