I put away the pistol I talked up in the handgun section, and got out the 357 Maximum rifle I put together last year. Indiana allows rifles now under certain criteria. The original intent was for PCR pistol cartridge rifle calibers, ie. 357, 41, 44 Mag and so forth to maintain short to medium range guns. But there is not an actual cartridge designation, just minimum-maximum case dimensions. Mike3132 and (Dans I think?) both built wildcats that are legal under the dimensions -358wssm. Anyway, the 357 Max in a rifle is really neat and fun to shoot. Using a 24" heavy contour T/C custom shop barrel, 32gr AA1680, wsr primer, and 200gr Hdy flextip, it is very accurate and low recoiling. Getting almost 2300fps, trajectory is dead on at 100yd and 4" low at 200yd. With a Burris 4.5X14 ballistic plex scope my dots are 200yd 1st, 240yd 2nd, and 270yd 3rd. Very glad I went this route because it is a joy and inexpensive to shoot. On to the story. A small rack, good sized body 10pt came out and worked a scrape. I ranged him at 148yd, put the gun on him and watched. I am not a trophy or rack hunter, but checked him out to see if I wanted to cash in yet, 4th day of 16 day season, on vacation the whole time! I have seen several other bigger bucks around during bow season, and the weather had been poor up to that point, but I could not pass up on a good opportunity to put meat in the freezer. So I took the shot, 148yd, quartering to me, aimed at the base of the neck-front of the shoulder, crumpled in his tracks. He never even kicked. Awesome! Now on to the 243 Encore pistol before I finish with the 10ml2. Thanks.
