I recently started reloading for my 1911 45acp. Any of you have any favorite loads.... I'll mostly be using cast 200gn and 230gn bullets and have W231, Bullseye, Unique powder on hand... Anybody got a pet load they would like to share. Zen

That load of yours would make for a good self defense load. Zen

I always used the 200gr semi wadcutter with about 4.8 or 4.9 grains of Bullseye. Accurate but dirty. For 230gr I went about 5.0gr.

W231 and a 230gr loaded to 850 fps was always my favorite load. I found W231 is very clean and accurate.

Zen yes, thats what i use it for,a few years ago had to put my last warning, a shot in the air to turn a moose i came across while archery elk hunting @ 15yds in the deep wilderness. it turned him thank god,i didnt want to kill him! he was a young moose just wanting to spar, but i fig'd i was just about 800lbs too light for that! that blue - dot is above book but it is very accurate,in all 45's that i have benched would stay within a 50cent peice @ 25yds. if anyone should try it-**start low & work up**

I bet the muzzleflash on that was almost as scarey! I used to shoot bullseye pistol with this old guy that used BlueDot IIRC and this funky homemade bullet lube. It wasn't too bad outdoors in the sun, the round smoked so bad it was like watching a tracer go down range. If we were shooting indoors it had a muzzleflash like 2' in diameter and 4' long and after a rapid fire string we would have to wait 15 minutes for the smoke to clear.
