I just picked up a Bushmaster Varminter with a 24" 1x9 twist barrell, I will be using this gun for coyote hunting only, at ranges of 300 yards or less. I am not concerned about price of ammo as I will be lucky if I shoot more than 20 rounds a year. I realize that I will have to see what ammo the gun likes best but was hoping I could get some advice as to what would a few different ones to start with. I am looking for the most accurate but also good knock down for yotes. I have no time or desire to reload so factory ammo only. Thanks

My favorite store bought ammo in my 24" 1:9 is Black Hills 69gr SMK. The red box (new) and the cheaper blue box (re-manufactured) shoot pretty much the same. They also have a 60gr V-MAX loading. You can also try the Hornady 75gr. I have not tried the Hornady ammo but reloads with the 75gr bullet did pretty fair loaded hot, loaded mild it seemed they were marginal with the 1:9 rifling.
In my rifle some flat based 55gr did almost as well as the 69gr at 100yds but beyond the 69gr really shined.

My bushmaster varminter loves the 50gr v-max bullets the best. There is a small no name company that sells remanufactured 223's. They are in a marroon box and are from Grand Island, NE. I'll look on the box when I get home and post the actual name of the company. My varminter will print 1/4 inch groups with these and my cousin's will print 3/8" groups.

Ok Billyzink, The company is called 3 Lees Co. Inc P.O. box 1653 Grand Island, Ne. 68803
phone # is 1-308-381-8285 They are open open 1-6pm mon-thurs. I do not know these people or have anything to do with them, but my family will shoot 2000-3000 of these (R-223 AMMO HV-MAX) at pasture poodles per year. Dad will buy a case or 2 each time he sees them. I have a very tough time besting them with my reloads! If memory serves correctly I believe that he is a jobber for Ramshot powder as well. Have fun.

I think that it is. Might just have to give them a call. The price for the 50gr v-max was not to bad at $16. Never looked at their web site. I had no idea that they had some many different cals.!
