There was a shooting at my old church, First Baptist Maryville (Illinois) this morning. The pastor was shot and killed while he was preaching. The shooter was subdued by church members who were stabbed in the process. He is obviously not right in the head. The pastor, Fred Winters, leaves behind his wife Cindy and two young girls. He was a friend of mine and a really good paster. He was one of the best examples of true humanity I have ever seen. He is a big part of why I have been in school to become a pastor. Prayers for his family and this church would be greatly appreciated. www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,506820,00.html Thanks Craig

I need to make one additional request, please pray that his wife and daughters would be protected from the press. They, the AP, showed up at their house to get her "comment". I am pissed beyond words right now. thanks......

Very sorry!
Seeing it all over the news yesterday and this morning was distant, you brought this into our home reading your post. It is amazing how we can take this type of thing all in stride when it is "just" on the tv!

Craig, My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic incident. My father and i were discussing this yesterday when it hit the press, but we didn't realize at the time, how close to home this would hit. Your friend was taken too soon, but we know that he is now at the side of God and beyond the reach of the evil this world holds................

As humans we ask why but some questions go unanswered. He is in the hands of our lord but his wife, kids, friends still morn. I pray God's hand will help heal in this time of hurting and give them strength to go forward. This is a tough day for all! Sorry for your loss Craig. Rex

Craig, what can one say? I don't know. He has certainly had a very positive influence on you and certainly others. He likely has many "crowns". I suspect that when we get to Heaven, we will consider those who went "permaturely" as the lucky or favored ones. Things will be backwards then. In-spite of these thoughts, my heart greives for his family and friends. He died preaching God's word: what a legacy! He and his family will be in my prayers tonight. Steve

No reasoning, no justification and no understanding when a mind goes bad and leads to such violence. It is hard to blame a person who is mentally unstable while it is hard not to. Many times I have wanted to help those who must grieve but cannot. Please, all who are suffering be aware that all normal people care and hope you find the strength to withstand the ordeal. May God Bless and keep you away from bitterness and get you through this as painless as is possible. Ozark

Wow, what a bad deal.
In Arkansas, there is a Legislative Discussion underway right now as to whether to extend the CCW privileges to a Church Building. Now, church buildings are prohibited, as are federal buildings and school buildings. There is so much opposition from the liberal left, with statements such as "I don't think such evil items belong in a house of worship......and I don't want to worship worrying about a nut with a gun sitting next to me"........
Makes me sick. If the doors are open to the public anywhere, and there's no metal detector, then CCW needs to be available so some of us can STOP this insanity whenever and wherever it occurs. Sad that it occurs in churches, but this proves that it does. I hope our Legislature is listening.
I surely do wish this were not necessary, and life was like it was 100 or 200 years ago (incidentally, when EVERYONE carried a gun EVERYWHERE)........but it's not.
My prayers for all involved, and for all of us in these times.
