I think I remember reading on the old board about using a brazing tip file/cleaner to measure ventliner openings. I did a search but couldn't find it. Can anyone tell me if this is correct & if the files are marked by the appropriate size for the ventliners?

Sometimes there is a burr left on the end from the manufacturing process. It may give you a false reading. I just rub it off on a sharpening stone.

Welcome to the new board Deerdhunter! I stopped using the torch tip cleaners (blue item in photo)because they didn't have a good selection of sizes available in the range that we need (.029-.037) or thereabouts. I ended up buying a good selection of micro/mini drill bits that fully cover the range of sizes i check for. The Drill Bit Micro set that i bought is Forney part #60239 and is the black case in the photo. The steel case that these come in is stamped with the number and decimal sizes, so it is very easy to verify sizes as you work. There are 20 bits in this set that range from #61-#80 and i will include a link to a drill bit size chart so you can see just how perfect this set is for our application. This set runs about $11 at several different sites on the web if you just do a google search for (Forney 60239). They are even available from a guy on ebay for a good price too. I think every Savage 10MLII user should have a set of these in his range box. bobmay.astronomy.net/misc/drillchart.htm

That drill set is the best method and the box helps to keep them from getting lost.

I have the same sets as KerryB, but had to search elsewhere for a .0335" wire.

wow great idea, Another item in the box. Its getting heavy. and I mean heavy. When does it stop. I am going to need a fork lift to move it soon with all the lead and powder thats in there. Man alive regular rifles and my TC Encores custom handguns are easy by comparison. Just pack bullets and targets and rest and a cleaning kit and I am off to the range.

supermag, if you need a new and better/bigger box, take a look at the Stanley Fat Max tool box (Home Depot, etc). Large, waterproof, removable tray, even a long indent on top that will cradle a range rod. I attached removable rifle holders to the lid.
