I'm not a Glock fan and SIG doesn't make a 10MM. But if you can shop around and find a 1000 series S&W they are nice. They are heavier and do not have the mag capacity of the Glock but they were designed back when the 10mm was a 10mm (they knocked at least 200fps off most factory loads since) and were probly the best autoloader S&W made. Back when S&W was being banned you could pick up some models for less then $300. I would take a 1006 over a Colt Elite any day of the week. There is the Tanfoglio T95 (or EAA Witness) that is not as nice looking (unless you dress like Sonny Crocket) and a solid shooter, but the polymer frame version I did not like. If your a 1911 guy Colt, Kimber and Springfield Armory made 10mms but then you could go even farther on the wild side and get a 9X23 Win or a 9X25 Dillion.

The witness limited or hunter models are excellent values. They have a huge following in Europe. www.tanfoglio.it or www.eaacorp.com An awesome single stack 1911 from www.fusionfirearms.com or the Perfect10 from www.stiguns.com. The Glock is the most inexpensive option and reliable as a sunset. Six inch barrels are available for the Glock, from Glock and have achieved some good results.

I have a ported aftermarket 6 inch on mine and while accuracy did improve a little on slow fire it improved alot on rapid fire. Sucker will blind you in dim light,,, I also have no problem shooting full power 10mm loads in the mod20, It will handle them with ease, my carry load it the 175 grain winchester silvertip at just under 1300fps, killed a couple wild hogs, a deer, and various other things with them,, and I have shot a few thousand 10mm blazer rounds above 1000fps and a thousand 180 grain handloads at 1200fps,,, fun gun.
