This is an old report i did in January on MM. Just trying to find stuff i had info on. Another great bullet by Lehigh.I went to the range this afternoon with my 50cal Knight Disc Elite. It was very cold so i had 110grns of BH209 already weighed out in Lanes powder tubes. I just have a cheap Simmons scope on this gun because i just dont use it much. I also stuck the non full plastic jacket breech plug in. I really was anxious to shoot the lehigh bullets today. They are .452 bullets at 248grn. They look awesome and shoot really well to boot. I think this bullet is going to be awesome on game. I cant wait to try it on some Deer this 2009 Hunting season. The group below was shot at 100yds, using a short black mmp sabot and 110grns of BH209. www.lehighbullets.com/proddetail.asp?prod=452%2D200

wonder what those will do with a full house smokeless load, its a shame seeing all that pretty brass being wasted in a bullet, if those had some sort of poly tip on the nose, they would be the bomb

Grouse,
Maybe the picture is deceiving but they sure look like they have a boat tail base. Can you confirm? Obviously if they do it sure didn't keep you from shooting a nice clover leaf group with BH209 and MMP short. If they do I suppose that would cause a problem at smokeless pressures.

Tom... I see you used the Knight NPFJ breach plug for this range session. Any issues with it ?
How bad was the fouling in the bolt/receiver area ?
Which type breach plug do you prefer with BH209 for the Knight bolts ?
Thanks... Rob

The best plug for BH209 in a Knight bolt is the concave red plastic jacket plug.

The boattail is no issue with Smokeless.

The boattail is no issue with Smokeless. What kind of speed are getting with the BH209? And at what levels have you shot it smokeless?

This range visit my chrono was getting rebuilt at competition electronics. I did shoot this bullet with 65grns of N120. A little stout on recoil but it shoots very well.

Have you shot these smokeless? If so at what speed? If the sabot is not made to fit the boat tail base (ala Barnes TMZ) then you'll likely get drilled sabots if you try to push them to speed.
I do like the idea of a tipped nose. ;D
That 200 grainer might be a good candidate for a tip too.

grouse, how good is the penetration and slower speeds? Do the bullets mushroom good at slower speeds also ,say down to about 1500 fps are less? This is my only concern with these bullets if one was looking for a Killing/Hunting bullet.Have you tested them for this?

The bullet at 100yds is down to 1500fps now. He is working on the BC as we speak. I think this bullet right now will out perform most bullets at 150yds and under. Those comments are based on the gel test i saw and the accuracy this bullet currently has. I hope to shoot a couple hogs soon with this bullet to have a much better observation.
