No it is not tapered it should come out from either side. The outside of the hole can be slightly tapered, make sure you are using a small enough drift.

The pin is 3/32 so the punch should be 3/32 also. If the pin is mashed flat on one end may cause problems, if so see if it will go the other way.

It will push until the edge contacts the shoulder, I think the pin edges were flared slightly, I don't have a small enough file to get to the pin edge that I can get sticking out. It pushes reasonably one way, but not at all the other. I finally got it driven back in enough to let it out of the press I made. After 3 broken punches I am sitting here trying to figure out whats next.

Center punch one side as centered as possible. Then drill about 1/4 the length of the pin deep with a 3/32 bit. Then try the punch

Got it, must have been burred around the pin, once it started moving it popped right out. After doing it, it's a cinch.

Here's one of my secrets on cross pin removal. Inspect both sides of the cross pin. One will be recessed slightly. Hit that side with the punch. Since I started doing that, never have had an issue. Before that, yeah, I broke some punches too. I also use a heavier duty punch to get it started, and then come back with the thinner punch for complete removal.

Rambler,
Why would you buy just the nose without the breech plug? Are you using someone else's breech plug? Which one?

I was just making an inquiry. Didn't mean to cause a hassle.
