As I posted last week, I stupidly ran over and crushed my new, cased, never-used Vortex Pro GT tripod. I had intended to use it in conjunction with my Chrony. It had even appeared sturdy enough to support my Televue Ranger spotting scope.
Back home, I disassembled it and found two broken pieces and a slightly bent center support column. I emailed Mr. Brian Widder, Vortex Customer Care Manager, and told him honestly that I had no warranty claim, but that I needed to purchase replacement parts. He responded that he could send the parts, but that he would then have to charge me for them, which he would rather not do. He asked instead if I would send the tripod to him.
I did, and it was returned today, just seven days after I put it in the mail. It's like new; even parts I had not noted as damaged have been replaced. So, add Vortex to the short list of suppliers who really stand behind their products.
This is the same company that makes Vortex riflescopes; they have an unconditional lifetime guarantee. I know nothiing about their quality, but after this experience I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of the very attractive Vipers.

Like what I just read as I recently purchased a Vortex Model Viper Scope. Haven't had a chance yet to use it but really like how it adjusts, plus a couple of other features. Range time will reveal a lot more.

Al This was the scope of my choice that has no objective adjustment. www.vortexoptics.com/riflescopes/view/vortex-viper-3-9x40-riflescope-dead-hold-bdc-reticleI am not going to promote anything here as I have yet to put it through it’s paces. These are my initial observations. To start with the magnification has a raised numbered face and a sort of lever behind it. This lever really helps to move the adjustment as it is firm and also what I call smooth meaning no resistance change felt when adjusting magnification from one end to the other. The windage and elevation adjustments are crisp when dialed. No guessing if it did click or not. One feature here also is being able to index zero for a particular load with adjustable rings. Then if you move the adjustment for another load and are not happy with it you just adjust quickly back to the indexed zero. How well this actually works is yet to be determined. It has good eye relief and sits well on my 10ML-II. So my initial observation seems to say expected quality is here. When I get her out I will also compare it to my other scopes. Once I have had a few outings I will post my findings. Ed
