New Ratcheting Version!
About the Savage EZ-tool
The NEW Savage EZ-Tool (RV)was designed by Tom Scott to make removing the breechplug easier. Normally the bolt has to be removed by loosening the rear action screw in order to remove the breech plug. This can cause your point of impact to shift, and in an exterme case might cause wounding of game instead of a clean kill. Another advantage of using the EZ Tool is it gives you the ability to ensure a tight breechplug during shooting. Some Savage shooters have reported that the breechplug sometimes gets loose during shooting. The EZ-Tool will allow you to check this and retighten EZ during shooting if needed.
For those Savage 10ML-II owners who live in states requiring non-smokeless powders, IE:(777) it gives the shooter the ability to break the breech plug loose and retighten after every few shots to help prevent the breech plug from becoming stuck (siezed) and also to easily clean/service their breech plug/ventliner/gun after every shooting session without worries that their point of impact could have shifted on them.
Finally, the Savage EZ-Tool is now available in the NEW (RV) Ratcheting Version!
The NEW Savage EZ Tool (RV) is $47.95 plus $4 for S&H to the lower 48 states. Note: Illinois residents need to add $3.00 for sales tax. For sales outside the USA please contact him for S&H costs.

Savage 10ML–II Owner
Please find enclosed the NEW Savage EZ Tool (RV) Ratcheting Version for removal of breech plug. Works with 1 or 2 pc. scope bases. It is not necessary to remove the rear action screw and bolt to remove breech plug. Not only is this a new concept, but also a quality tool.
The 5/16” EZ Tool (RV) Geared Box Wrench, (combination breaker/ratchet), included is a very high quality tool made in the USA by Armstrong Tools. It has a 12 pt. standard box end on one end and a 72 tooth ratchet on the other end. This ratchet will work with as little as 5 degrees movement. Ratchet has a working capacity of 207”/lbs.
To use the NEW Savage EZ Tool (RV), start by sliding the bolt all the way open. Drop the EZ Tool into the receiver opening and slide the 5/16” EZ Tool Geared Box Wrench included, (standard box end), onto the 5/16” hex on the back of the EZ Tool (RV). Now using the Geared Box Wrench, rotate EZ Tool (RV) back or forth to engage EZ Tool fingers into slots on back of the breech plug. After EZ Tool fingers engage slots, if necessary to allow for more working room, slide EZ Tool Geared Box Wrench off of the 5/16” hex, rotate standard 12 pt. box end slightly and reposition on 5/16” hex. Note: Use the 5/16” – 12pt. standard box end to break breech plug loose or final tighten and use the 5/16” ratcheting box end to quickly remove or install breech plug.
Now slide the bolt forward until it contacts the end of the 5/16” hex on back of EZ Tool (RV) and using slight forward pressure on the bolt handle, (keeps EZ Tool (RV) fingers trapped in the slots on the back of the breech plug), you are ready to loosen or tighten breech plug.
Once breech plug is broken loose, slide the bolt all the way open and slide the 5/16” standard box end off the 5/16” hex, flip Geared Box Wrench over and place the 5/16” ratcheting box end onto the 5/16” hex to quickly remove or install. Note: One side of the 5/16” ratcheting box end is for loosening and the opposite side is for tightening.
If you remove the breech plug on a regular basis for service as instructed by Savage Arms, and use a good quality anti-seize, you will find it comes out EZ using this method, hence the name of the tool. Using the EZ Tool (RV), you have less chance of damaging equipment as opposed to other means.
Keep the EZ Tool (RV) and 5/16” Geared Box Wrench lightly oiled to help prevent rusting. You will use the EZ Tool (RV) and Geared Box Wrench all the time, such as when servicing the breech plug, cleaning the bore or vent liner change and you won’t leave home without it.
User Tip: When using the Savage EZ Tool (RV) with a 1pc scope base use the side of the gun with the cartridge cutout in the base for more working room.
