Thank You It was my intent to hopefully stop someone else from getting hurt. As you read in my thread I heard the rod rattle in the barrel, saw the rod was missing. And still pulled the trigger. I think the main reason this happened was a variation in loading method. At the range I would load using the Savage supplied metal handle. Then set the ramrod on the bench. In the field I didn't have the handle on. Also it was the first time loading in the Field. I need to load and put the rod back under the barrel EVERY TIME no matter if in the field or the range.
I'm not trying to impress anyone but this should have never happened. I'm a state certified firearms instructor revolver pistol shotgun rifle. Spent 10 years as a law enforcement sniper. and been involved in competitive shooting since the 70's. I've trained hundreds of people firearms safety for their permits to carry. And still I pulled the trigger when things didn't look right. It only takes a second for something bad to happen.

With the background you just revealed I would like to add my respect and admiration for the individual you are just jumped quite a bit. It also showed of your honest concern for others as an instructor to really bite your pride to reveal this.
The one thing I learned about muzzle-loading when I first started is that new applied rules above shooting with cartridge firearms are absolutely necessary. Even then I made that one mistake with a double load. I have never had any other such related incidents with firearms other than this one. It was one eye opener for me and that one mentally recorded black mark with firearms still stings a little to this day. Never got tagged by my scope but an older tooth filling got cracked or loosened. A little while later got a nice dental bill as an additional cost reminder.
