Got into my climbing stand at about 3:45, really windy again for the 3rd day straight, kinda getting disgusted with the wind. Said to myself deer probably wont be moving again, and cant hear nothing. I was going to climb down a bit earlier, due to the wind, Looked to my right and here he comes through the laurel on a steady walk. I gave him a quick grunt to stop him which worked out perfect. 32 yards broadside double lung went about 50 yards. Deer weighed 160 lb.

Nothing wrong with BIG pictures smokeless77.
Nice buck. Where in eastern NYS do you hunt? I grew up in the catskills where this size buck is THE BIG ONE....lot's of hunting pressure and rifle county.

Thanks, I weighed him with two diff scales, Thats about right. Weight wise it is better than average for around here. Wilms I'm in dutchess county. The next county north of me would be Columbia county where rifle starts.

I like the story, i relate to the conditions however not the out come. I truly feel to experience hunting one must try archery a whole new world opens up. Very excitining and then boring. But when it happens and it does someday, dad gum its just so exciting.

Why on earth would you downsize that picture? That's a beauty. I'm hearing you with the wind situation. Had a similar thing happen to me the other night. I got disgusted and climbed down. Only difference is I didn't have a big buck walk up to me!

DB, Speaking of something walking up on you.
This just came to my mind. That Monday evening when I shot the buck the arrow went through the deer, and couldn't find the arrow. I knew it was probably stuck in the ground, but it was getting late. So anyway drag the deer out and I look the next day for the arrow. On my way in after work, I see movement, black blur, so I get a arrow ready, and stand there waiting, and here comes a big ole black bear. He never saw me, but coming straight at me. I stood there motionless until he got within 35-40 yards. I drew the bow and held it on him now he's 15 yards away, and I'm getting a little nervous, so I gave out a yell he stopped and looked for a few seconds and run like a mother up the the ridge. In all my years hunting it is my first time to see a bear in the woods around here. I knew there was a few but just some pics and here say. I can say that is the first time I felt a little uneasy and didn't know what to expect. In the end it put a smile on my face.

Nice deer John... Your story tells it all...You can plan, speculate, figure, hope, and all the rest. But it boils down to being in the right place at the right time. Zen

I know there has been an increase in bears in NY and expansion of the bear hunting area.
