Barnes is now selling in bulk Muzzleloading Bullets WO/Sabots
Including the 250 290 TMZ Flat Based, which to me is the most accurate bullet made. [sabotless.]
Good Luck,
Marty

Moose, I posted this in the 300tsx thread, but I don't think you've seen it. How far below your lands do you size the bullet? How high up are you knurling after sized? Using a veggie or wool wad between the powder and bullet? How much of what powder? Thanks

When I went to the NRA Convention in Charlotte, I had talked with Randy Brooks about selling the 195 .40 cal. bullet in bulk. He said it was possible and to contact Ryan Keele in customer service (who I spoke to also) after the show and he would see what he could do. I have since e-mailed them several times and no one has gotten back to me? Richard

Rangeball,
I can't say the size of my bore, after Rick sent me the rifle, I decided against the advice of both Rick and Edge, to try to resize my barrel, by lapping to take a .451 bullet [the barnes] without knurling the bullet, since I had no idea what I was doing after 2500 strokes with 220 grit I stopped, and since God looks after fools, I didn't ruin the barrel, I now resize the 290 TMZ, first I run it thru a Lee .449 die than a Lee .450 and knurl it to .450.5 I use Rick orginal load, 53grs of H4198 with a wool wonder wad. Its a super accurate load, I have shot more one hole groups with this muzzleloder than any rifle I have ever owned, but to be honest, I never fired 6000 round thru and other rifle. Best Wishes and good luck, Marty

Richard,
Needless to say that not the way to make friends, When they discontinued the X bullet, I asked to buy the remaining stock in the 300 and 350, they didn't get back to me, it was the good folks on this site who gave me the info, who had stock in those sizes.

:)I hope the new 195's aren't like the ones myself and shooter got because they have been giving us fits with blowing sabots. They have a bigger radius on them.

:)Rick 56grs would blow on the second shot(1fouler with a xtp) I haven't went lower yet. Range bigger radius on the edges less which will leave less surface on the bottom. My friend Ryan is having the same problem with ssts. The qc has went out the window I will post his picture he sent me later of 2 bases of 2 bullets in the same pack you will be amazed.

Just opened them, the are a bit radiused but I have nothing to compare them too. Left my phone at home so will try to post a pic later.
If this is the case perhaps the lehigh .40 will now be a better choice?

Wow... same pack?
The barnes I have, the radius looks more like the one on the right.
I wonder if taking them down to totally flat on a grinder, belt sander or metal lathe would be a good idea?

I bought 300 195 gr, and 200 175 gr, from Knight @ 70 cents ea. So far, I have not had sabots blow as long as I can keep barrel temps low enough. Boarhog

Rangeball...........The ONLY way you could flatten the base is on a lathe. Anything else would not remove material equally and result in an off balance bullet. The few times I have blown a sabot, it was with a bullet that has more radius on the base. Maybe thats why I do so well the the XTP's? Below are pictures of.........from left to right..........195 Barnes purchased from Knight (as Boarhog did), Hornady SST and Hornady XTP (all .40 cal). The XTP by far has the flattest base followed by the Barnes and the SST. My blown sabots have almost always occurred with the SST's to the best of my recollection. The Lehigh .40's are even worse! They have a machined "boattail" with a very sharp edge that just cuts right thru the sabots. Jon had generously sent me both the 180 and 200 grain versions and they were "junk" at the velocities I shot them (at the time, 2700to 2800 fps) They would probably work good in a BP or at velocities "maybe".................under (just guessing, 2400 fps??? :)range the same Pack. Qc is really gone south when your naked eye can see the difference. The xtp's always shoot good because they have the best base. We should all call hornady and barnes and tell them to flatten the bases of the barnes and sst to look like the xtp so everyone can be happy not just the bp guys. Heck I'm hunting with the xtp this year they have did a good job on deer in the past and they are alot cheaper.

I wonder what the base on the TEZ .45s look like. They continually blow the RCR in my .50 with the same load that almost one holes xtps. This could explain it.
Just checked, the .45 xtp is perfectly flat, while the TEZ is more beveled, but not as much as the .40 appears to be.
I may have to flatten some on the lathe just to satisfy my curiosity.

Just got in an order of 500 41Mag XTPs - 210gr. They are heavier constructed than the 40 cal bullets so should be a better choice for my 40 Sav/Pacnor, at least on deer. Can't wait to try them out. Perhaps I can go bust a hog next week. ;D ;D

I just got off of the phone with Knight.Knight is alive and well. A company by the the name of PI,Inc(Plastic Innovations) has acquired Knight.According to the person I spoke with Knight will resume production next month with the entire Knight line at dealers in the spring.Production will continue in Iowa. Though the company will be headquartered in Tennessee.I made this call to see what was up with 195 grn Barnes radius differences.Unfortunately it was late in the day and no one was there to answer my questions. PI bought out Knight lock, stock and barrel. There may be a chance of some new/old stock 195s still in stock.I will let you know....

I am curious if anyone has tried using something like a pop rivit washer under the bullet, but inside the sabot? It would have to be just the right size, but it may support the plastic a little on those bullets with a radiused base. Boarhog
