Two boys grew up as neighbors, they were the best of friends, never a cross word between them. They went all through school together and joined the army under the buddy system. Went to war and always looked after each other. They returned home and applied to collages until they were both accepted to the same one. They met and married sisters. One friend went on to get a law degree and the other got a masters in business. The lawyer became a judge and the other ended up owning a string of hardware stores. The bottom fell out and the store owner started writing bad checks, got caught. Went before his best friend and the whole town new the judge would let him off. But the LAW was the LAW so the judge fined his friend the largest fine ever impost for a crime like his, THEN HE STEPPED DOWN OFF THE BENCH, WALKED AROUND TO THE CASHIER AND PAID IT HIMSELF.

Excellent thread. If I may, I'd like to add something to it which I believe might make it even easier/clearer to many people. After the judge passes sentence, the judges SON walks in and offers to pay the fine to the court. The father (judge) says it's ok with the court, but then he asks the gulity man if it's ok with him. The point being that it was the Son who paid for our sins, and even though He did, each one of us must choose to accept the payment before it is actually effective for us.
