The Hospice nurse informed the family that he would not last more than 24 to 48 hours. He is not conscious. He wants to be cremated and have his ashes spread on the waters of Buffalo river. Those of you who read the book Jake the Woodsman will understand his desires. Request that your prayers be for the absence of suffering for him and for strength the rest of us. Thanks, ozark

My brother passed away yesterday afternoon. He wanted to be cremated and his ashes spread on the waters of Buffalo River. That will be done. Thanks to all for the prayers and thoughts. He was almost 93 and lived a long and good life. Ozark

Ozark
With a saddened heart I offer my condolences on the loss of Jake. Even though I haven’t personally met him I feel I have come to know him through “Jake The Woodsman”. In a special way the memory of him will live on.

Permit me to share with you the greatest success of my book "Jake The Woodsman". The book made the last 16 years of his life much brighter. He was never more happy than when people called him Jake or asked him to autograph the book. Often he introduced himself as Jake. It was ego inflating and he felt his life was recognized as worthwhile. I understand because few people have books written about their lives. Naturally, many of the thoughts were mine or those of my son Ben Jr. in the book. We didn't know his views about religion and very little about the war he hated to talk about. But he accepted the book as his life and becuase of age accepted that he had done everything mentioned in the book. With that said, let me say this: He was a true woodsman and his love for hunting, fishing, shooting and exploring the woods was his true love. He did live in a few caves for a season and experienced things that few get to experience. Thanks for all the kind words. I am fine with his passing because somehow I managed to be his favorite hunting companion and person to be with. And I did manage to put his love and life in a book. He got more from the book than I or any other reader. So maybe I provided him something in his long life that made it better. Again, Thank you all and God Bless. Ozark

:)Ben, I doubt anyone has ever had a better brother. You added to the meaning of his life while he lived, and he got to benefit from your contribution.
