coonhunter eh? Good deal. Welcome. What breed dogs are you hunting? I have tried them all. Had a few good cooners and many that wasn't worth keeping. The very best was a mixed breed female. The straightest and next best was a Treeing Walker. Also a female. Got to old to follow them but I have many fond memories. Tar12 is one member here that has done a lot of hound following.

Glad to meet you. Well, I have a few hounds lets see, 2 walkers,1male 1female, 1male black an tan, 1male english and my show hound is a male redbone. Oh, my 12yr. old has a bluetick female. I get alot of slack from some of my buddies from time to time for not choosing one certain breed but I remind them that I hunt coondogs, not a certain breed. All are reg. UKC except my B&T but he will be soon, going to single reg. him next month. He tracks an trees hard. I pretty much love to just hear them all in the woods but it sure is nice when my buddies get beat to the fur by several of my dogs! and they have to eat a large piece of humble pie. LOL. You take care of yourself, we need you good ol boys to keep some of the young pups inline and knowledge is always best when it comes from experience. Have a good one.

Deadon, I have had problems with blueticks backtrackin. Some seemed to just love to wear a track out going first one way and then back along the same track. I used to claim that all the trails one finds in the woods were beat out by a bluetick trying to figure out which way the coon went. But I have had a couple that were what I call fair cooners. Many dogs will tree coon but top cooners are rare. I have owned two that were top notch. Not a lot of fun to hunt them because when they hit a track it wasn't a question and soon they were at the base of a tree telling me to come do my part. It was a great sport for me for many years. There are great and sorry dogs in all the breeds.

deadon, Jake isn't in any pain. One day he knows everyone and the next he is really stressed trying to figure out where he is and who he is with. It is difficult to tell if his condition is terrible or if it is a blessing that he isn't aware of his own condition. Yesterday, he was telling everyone that he was going to sell his three farms and that he should be able to live fine off that money. Since he has no farms his thinking is distorted but since he thinks he has three good farms I supose it is comforting to him. He certainly wasn't depressed so I suppose it is well that his thinking is positive even if wrong.

Ozark,We are better off in that state not to know what is really going on. No one wants to be a burden. That reminds me, I think my mother in law had the best line. One day I was helping her down the stairs and she stopped me half way down and said "You know,Rusty, I always said I didn't want to live long enough to be a bother but now that I am bothering everybody I don't want to go anywhere"
