Really never tried to convert a rifle action to a ML'er. I have a Savage 110 action, no barrel no stock , can it be convertwed to a Smokeless ML'er? If so how and where can this be done and what is needed? would it reguire a new bolt? Really a Novice at this sort of thing Lou

I am pretty sure that it can be done. You have a 110 action, if it has a standard bolt head (.473") for a .243 Win, .308 Win, .270 Win, 30-06, etc., it should be fairly simple.
You could order a Par-Nor barrel, in .45 or .50 cal, pre-threaded and pre-chambered for the savage breech plug. You can get a Savage type 1 breech plug from Savage and some percussion modules, screw the breech plug in the barrel, screw the barrel nut on the barrel, instal the recoil lug, and screw the action on the barrel. When get the barrel screwed in about 75% of the way, insert the bolt (if it is out of the action), and screw the action in until the the barrel touches the bolt, then back off one full turn. Insert a percussion module into the breech plug and screw the action in until you it gets a little tight. Lock down the barrel nut. Install barreled action into the stock of your choice.
Of course it may not be quiet this easy, but certainly not difficlut, to convert your 110 to a muzzleloader.

1shot, have been out of circulation fo quite awhile. One question, how do you do the bolt? or do you have to have the bolt converted to a setup like the original savage? Lou

The original Savage ML-I used a percussion module, which is basically a primer carrier, and I believe what 1shot was describing. That is one way to go.
The other is to get the PacNor barrel he described and also an Edge-style custom breech plug, probably in stock right now with Pete at PA Machine (daved would have contact info, I don't have it handy). So after your stock, barrel and breechplug come in, you simply put the plug in the barrel, put the nut on the barrel, and screw it into the action. Get a lot of the same brand of .243 or .308 cases and cut them to about 45ACP length. Put on in the plug and close the bolt, screw the barrel back until it tightens. The shortened cast, your primer carrier, is now sandwiched between the bolt face and the nose on the plug. Tighten the nut.
Now sort your shorted cases so that you choose only those within 0.001" of webbing thickness of each other. I did this by inserting them in the plug and measuring the OAL from the bottom of the plug to the top of the case head.
Now to complete the setup, get a single shot follower and put it in the mag so the shortened cases feed correctly. Also take the ejector button out of the bolt. Slap on a scope and you are ready for the range!
Once you have all the pieces in hand, it would take under an hour to go from a box full or parts or a donor gun to a fully assembles smokeless ML.

Edge Thank you so much for the information. To be very truthfull I am not very knowledgable when it comes to any machine work or lingo. I have to rely on others and pay them for thier services. I had the money on hand but blew all of it on three rifles, dies, and components. So this will have to go on the back burner till I can recover and have the money to pay for the gunsmithing services I need to complete such a task. So when in a better position I will need a very good barrel, breech plug, and stock as well as incidwentals? I your opinion woul a short action be better suited for this venture? Thanks again to all for the repies. Lou

I would have used a short action, but the NIB rifle was for sale cheap That was the ONLY reason! I wanted a Savage since I had the programming already done when I re-barreled my ML. I just shortened up the Savage plug to remove the snout to basically remove the recessed plug section. I also wanted to try the Accu-Trigger and this one had that too edge.

Edge thanks again. But my action is a long action so you recommend a short action? Imay be able to trade a short action. Lou

Lou The long action is fine, but was my second choice Since the rifle I found for sale cheap was a NIB long action that is what I went with. An extra fraction of an inch in length is not worth getting worked up over. Heck, if my H&R Handi had a decent trigger and barrel I would probably never use the bolt action.....but it doesn't, so I do edge.

Edge thanks for all your replys I got me a Rem 700 ML'er that I am going to turn it into a smokeless ML'er. I sold the action for more than I paid for the Rem 700. And shortly after I found that one a friend on Doug'd message boards told me of a blue 50 cal 700 Rem I bought that also. Thanks again. lou

Guys I am new here and just now registered. I really want to build my own smokeless ML as I have a spare Short Action Staggered Feed from the 308 family that I would love to build a ML with. Can anyone give me the contact info for Pete at PA Machine or whoever I need to get one of the 45ACP primer systems. Also, am I correct to think that all I need to do is order a Pacnor (does anyone else make prefit Savage ML barrels) barrel, and the 45ACP primer system? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I currently have an Encore but am tired of cleaning it. I planned on buying a Savage, but then noticed this thread and thought of the Action I have laying around. Thanks
