My next door neighbor operates a sawmill and uses black powder to split logs in excess of 40 inches. Today he gave me a can of surplus powder that his friend gave him thinking it was Black powder. It is an 8 lb metal gallon can labeled "Talon Manufacturing Co.,Inc." propellant recovered from unfired U.S. Military Ammunition. WC-852. This stuff looks to be 20 years old judging by the container and I cannot find a lot number on it. It is marked on the top of the can "8lb. $64.00. Yeah, $8 a pound. What it be like? Do any of you hard core reloaders have any idea what this might be equivalent to? I've been checking and the info is vague. Some say H-380 and some say H-414 and yet others say H-450. They would all do a decent job in my 6mm's but I'd rather have more info. If anyone can help I'd sure like to hear from you.

This is what I found. It was in the following link If you want to read more. DC www.castbulletassoc.org/forum/view_topic.php?id=950&forum_id=23Gents, here is some data on currently available milsurp powders that I gleaned from a variety of internet sites that may interest you, and give you some guidance. It comes replete with the usual total lack of guarantees and warranty, and with the caution that you should; 1. Start low & work up slow, and 2. Discuss your needs and expectations with your supplier, as he probably knows a lot more about the powder than you do. WC852(s) lot #47287 is more like RL-19/H4831. More on WC852, this is a rolled double-based speroidal powder original purpose was for loading Cal. .30 APM2, suited for 165-gr. and heavier bullets. Much of this was sold by Hodgdon as H414, burning rate is similar to W-W760. Some later lots of H414 after the milsurp powder was gone were 760BR, which was an older 1970s version of 760.
