One of my favorite ways I enjoy venison is in a stir-fry. It is easy to do and prefer mine done in a large frying pan with a lid cover to have the heat engulf the ingredients instead of just cooking it from the bottom.
No the lid did not come with this pan. Actually it was my mother’s favorite cooking utensil and I don’t know where she got the lid from. ;D
Next picture is of the ingredients used. Starting in the back row:
-Vegetable oil spray to coat the pan.
-Teriyaki sauce
-Garlic powder
-Salt & Pepper
-Bean sprouts
-Frozen package of Broccoli and Cauliflower
Front row has sliced:
-Orange pepper
-Green and hot red cherry peppers that I preserve
-Onions
-Deer meat
Okay to start the ball rolling the pan is coated with vegetable oil and peppers and onions are started first.
This cooking is done at medium heat and once the onions appear to be softening, the meat, some garlic powder and teriyaki sauce are added.
Now the meat has to cook through. During the cooking process if the pan appears to be almost drying up add a little water and some more teriyaki sauce.
With the meat basically cooked through the bean sprouts and vegetables are added.
Then some more cooking time until the vegetables are getting tender. At this point salt and pepper is added for additional flavoring to liking. I just put enough in there to just be able to taste and prefer adding any additional salt and pepper afterwards. You’ll know when she’s done.
This is the basic recipe used and next time we intend to try adding some Red Wine. Another vegetable we have used are snow peas that look like baby peas still in their shell, have even added hash brown potato patties that come frozen from the supermarket and break into chunks when cooked like this. To alter the flavor a little we sometimes use Soya sauce instead of Teriyaki sauce and even add a little barbecue sauce to the mixture. In other words don’t be afraid to experiment/alter the recipe some to adjust to your taste as it never seems to come out bad.
Finally I like a crusty bread topped with a little butter to go with this.
I normally don’t eat dessert after this but sometimes enjoy a homemade low calorie Blueberry Cheesecake.
Life is good.
