This is just another boring boom flop story.2 does materialized out of the swamp at first light directly down wind of my location. Retards...the closest doe recieved the fury of the BO at a scant 40 yds..entered the front right shoulder and exited through the mid section on opposite side..DRT..the other doe had enough sense to scoot out of there, but not far enough,I ranged her at 237yds.I took my time and busted her squarely in the shoulders hoping to recover a BO,no luck as it blew through and dropped her right there."Q' went out yesterday afternoon and did not see anything.Shanias first chance will be this wednesday after school. We have a lot of standing corn here yet and a lot of people are crying over this fact,I just keep on smiling because by the time our actual muzzy season rolls around all of the wanta-bes are out of the woods around here.. ;D Thats when the real blood letting begins! ;D

Good start Tar. Keep us posted on the exploits of the kids. We open here in NY on Saturday and we also have tons of standing corn to deal with.

You are already dialing long distance. The Barnes really work for you, that many yards and still a pass through. Good hunting.

ET, Hopefully it will be 3x3 with glee! ;D DB,I have some prime spots ready for Shania, she just needs some trigger time! Jims,Those BOs flat work..I have had only one chance to recover one,but it was lost somewhere between the woods and the skinning process last year.I will recover one sooner or later.I came close this time as a rather large chunk of bone got blew out on this doe on the off shoulder.

Sounds like a good day and a good test from near to far. I just got some of the Barnes Original 300s and will give them a go for next season. Congratulations.

Was that a double barrel Muzzy? ;D Nice shooting and way too boring-I wanted to hear some tracking and "bullet that didn't perform" discussion.... ; ;D Seriously,though-I doubt that you'd have a better chance recovering that BO at that distance,it bleeds off some fps and pencils right thru unless both shoulders hit in the right spot.IMO and personal observation. My SST at that distance slowed to point where it didn't expand much and was in and out. Was exit hole much bigger?

I think that a close range shot with two side by side may work..or one end to end Good work on the long shot, do you use a BC reticle, holdover or clicks? edge.

I use a plain Zeiss Conquest 3.5x10x44.I am 2.5-3 inches high at 100 yds.that puts me dead on at 200yds.This reticle is the Z-Plex,that being a set of finer inner lines that flare to heavier post ends.I use the 6 0clock post to 300 yds.R-Man came up with this formula for the N120,BO combo. It works well, none have escaped! My next scope purchase is going to have the same magnification but with the 600 Z-plex reticle.

Rick, Let us know how Q makes out in that football game. I saw the post of Shania's buck and was thrilled for her (and you). The kids are very busy now with their sports but remember the the window of opportunity for that stuff is very small relative to how long they will be able to hunt. Seems hard to get enough opportunity now but you've instilled the love of the hunt in them so they will always come back to it.

Rick, Can you get the 600 yd Z plex without the AO feature? Remember I had a 4.5-14 with 800 yd z plex and an AO and it blew in short order. Also I found out that the Zplex lines were no great advantage for our load, as it seems to me that 300-325 yds is about the limit for the BO accuracy wise. Not saying it will not work, but I am not sure now if the extra expense is worth it with our type of set up. However if you are thinking of building a 45, well now there might be some advantage to the 600 yd z plex. Matter of fact with the reduced recoil just maybe the 4.5-14 with 800 yd Zplex and AO might be worth trying again. Just some thoughts to consider.

Yes, they make it with out the AO feature, it is available for the entire line up.We will have to discuss this further..
