Although the whitetail deer is more distributed and popular for hunters I thoroughly enjoyed hunting the blacktail in westerm Washington state. Its size is about that of a Arkansas whitetail and where I hunted it was like a jungle. I hunted the creep and watch method and took a couple using that method. They are not easy and the hunter needs to be very watchful. They slip away like a ghost. If anyone is from that area, I hunted in Grey Harbor county around Hump Tulips. I will never forget finding stumps of trees that were cut six to eight feet above the ground and had diameters from six to ten feet across. Finding these without knowing the harvesting methods used I imagined that the cutters must have been Paul Bunion size. Climbing onto one of these stumps one could sit comfortable and see more area. It rained a lot there but it wasn't really cold at all. I remember it as great hunting.

Lived for 10 years in western Oregon, northwest of Portland on the Columbia River. Hunting blacktail and elk in the coastal rain forests was challenging and great fun. I do miss that and going to the Deschutes River canyon and hunting the high desert for Chuckar, Huns, and Red-legs -- good stuff, good times, good friends.
